I’ve been having trouble with my citadel nuln oil and argax earthshade leaving a white chalky residue when dry.

So far I’ve tried:
Thinning with water.
Thinning with distilled water.
Not thinning.
Using a brand new brush.
Using a throughly cleaned brush.

Am I doing something wrong or did I get a bad batch?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
On a whim I tried a 1:1 mix of Vallejo glaze medium and argax earthshade and on my test mini it seems to have solved the problem.

It’s a little glossy but I matte varnish already so that’s not a issue.

The washes have 2 layers within the pot if left settle; top layer may be too glossy. Ideally thin with lil water for best effect. Bottom layer gives you the powdery white left in crevasse after drying, good for gunk effect on tank tracks and vehicle light weathering effect. If your pot is low then I’d suggest getting a new pot and add a bit of it from the top glossy layer to the old.

I've encountered this problem when thinning too much, ie almost entirely water. Not sure what's going on.

Shake like crazy.
Do not thin with too much water (especially hard water).

Sounds like a hard water deposit, that or a faulty batch
