Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I can’t quite rationalize the latest FAQ with the Codex entry for Rangers. Would love some clarification!

My reading of it is they can either:
1) deploy like any other unit in your army
2) deploy after deployment (but before first turn) in friendly deployment zone.

Have I got 2) wrong? Is there a third option?

Cheers!

If using the beta rules you can either deploy them as normal, or they start off board and get a ‘deep strike’ style ‘appear 9” away’ deployment.

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"

Adding :
turn 2 or 3, not turn 1.

... and 9" from enemies.

Elvish rangers got a hard (or really soft, depending on perspective) nerf. It's now just Space Marine scouts & nurglings that own the best deployment control.

Depends on how you use them.
Yes, deployment control and screening with them is basically out, but by allowing them to come in on later turns, they are better able to take mid-game objectives and respond (i.e. avoid) specific threats.

Having my main Troops removed from the game I like this change as I was only taking Rangers to fill a Battalion. Rangers were the only Troop that cam close to filling the same role as my Windriders did as Troops.
