Hey guys, got my first box of Wulfen, I was put off using them as they just didn't fit my theme. But having seen them in game, and how great they look, my mind has been changed!

I am unsure how to kit them out however, I understand you want a couple SS but the frost claws seem brilliant for cleaning out hordes, the Great frost axe also seems interesting but I am unsure, any help is appreciated.

I had a look online but all the posts seem to be pre 8th wolves codex, cheers!

So, everyone has a different opinion, this is the internet, after all.

That said, how I personally would do it:

Hammers + Shields on all of them, except the leader, who stays with his claws.

These guys aren't meant to clear hordes. They kill big nasty things. In general, in 8th edition, hordes are best cleared with shooting.

Right ok then, interesting.. In that case, I may be lacking in the horde clearing department. I have plasma within my Grey Hunters, and Bjorn.. What would you recommend for Wolf Horde clearing, I only ask as my friends play Orks and Tyranids. I have a thunderwolf cav unit with ss + wc and harold. Do I need more?

Outflanking aggressors are great fun for clearing hordes or just aggressors in general if they are coming to you.

Basic bloodclaws near a wolfen stone or wolfen seem to be able to get the job done (if they can make it into combat) but against dedicated melee hordes like orks/nids I'd rather shoot the choppy ones than try to chop the choppy ones (as they'll most likely out-chop you...)

Aggressors in general, yeah, are the anti-horde unit.

You could also bring a Repulsor tank, kitted with fragstorms and other anit-horde weaponry. If you put that next to a Wolf Guard Battle Leader, and a Wolf Lord, it'll be reasonably accurate and hurt things fairly well in shooting. Also, it is -2 to charge passively, and FLY.

Hmm.. I am not a huge fan of the Primaris stuff. Although the redemptor dread is pretty cool.. May have a look at Vindicators which do not seem half as good as they were imo.. And preds kitted out for hordes.. if that is possible.

I was just about to ask the same question and saw this.. So generally it seems Pack leader with claws and rest with TH+SS?

So, that's the general consensus because i've been the only one to reply with a loadout.

Frost Claws must be taken on the leader. It's just what he has... can't go with a 5th TH/SS combo.

You could make the case for the Great Frost Axe, but not at its current price point, it's a d3 damage weapon and costs 4 points less, but you lose a 3++.

I don't see any other loadout as being really viable.

My only issue with having TH is that 4+ to hit, which Im guessing the argument against is the 3+ on charge and whatever you have charged will be dead by the next fight phase.

Another horde clearing option are Wolf Guard Bikers,, they can each carry a storm bolter and storm shield.

I have never really looked at bikers, something does not seem right using bikers as Wolves, if they are a serious option however, it is worth thinking about. I have a set of three I could use, I suspect I will need some more though.

Wolf Guard Bikers just don't have enough dakka for the points.

Although CA might fix that.

TH+SS also makes the big point sink tons more survivable.
