A necxron triarch stalker has a rule that all friendly necron units can reroll to hit rolls of 1 against any target attacked by a triarch stalker earlier in that fire phase.That's the targeting relay rule.
Now, using the term attack literally this would mean that even if a triarch stalker fires at a unit and misses, it still attacked the unit, albeit unsuccessfully. Simply firing at a unit is attacking it whether it hits or not. The rule does say it applies to any unit attacked by a triarch stalker, not any unit hit by it.
Plus even a missed shot can provide targeting correction data.
As badly as necrons got xxxxed up the xxx with an adamantium power strapon in this edition I think they should get any advantages they can, so I'm inclined to say all a triarch stalker has to do it attack a target to give other necron units the reoll a 1 advantage. RAW the rule seems to support this, and again, even a missed shot can be useful for targeting data.

What's the rule question? Yes, this is explicitly clear; if the rule just says it has to attack, and not "if it hits" or something similar to that, then yes, you get the reroll 1s. I never heard of anyone saying that wasn't the case.

Yea, thats literally what the rule says. I dont see why this is a point worthy of discussion.
So: Yes you do get to reroll 1s even if the stalker misses its shots.

If it wasn't an attack, then surely you get to try it again, since by their very admission you haven't used your shooting attack for that phase yet

If you missed it isn't a hit, it's still an attack regardless of whether you hit or not.
