I posted a similar list a while back, and after some play testing, I refined it as best as I could for LVO...

The list focuses on board control. I deep strike the gauss immortals and use the Deceiver to redeploy d3 units before the game starts within +12", which is usually for a stalker to get in range of priority targets, and placement of the doomsday ark. Veil of Darkness is mostly used as a defensive maneuver if tesla immortals get into combat. Otherwise, it's another tool for more board control.

9/10 times I choose ground control, recon, and old school as my secondaries. The Nephrekh trait allows for an auto advance of 6" which has come in clutch several times with my wraiths and scarabs who can, after using a strategem, still charge.

Doom Scythes aim for big targets that have been lit up by the Stalkers for rerolls. They are Sautekh so still shoot at full accuracy. After one of the Scythes connects with a target, the other two shoot the same target with +1 accuracy from the Sautekh strategem. They'll be hitting on 2's with rerolling 1's and their tesla explode on 5's.

I am having a hard time deciding between running my scarabs as 3 units of 3 or 1 unit of 9. Having a unit of 9 has several benefits: 1. fewer drops 2. better use of strategems 3. a potentially big redeploy with the Deceiver's grand illusion 4. less chances of enemy getting first strike/blood. Small units scattered around definitely has merit as well. Would love to hear some thoughts!

Hi, may I ask why it is better to run the Deceiver with Scarabs rather than Wraiths?

Well, both have their merits. For me, its not the question either or.
The Deceiver can give you a tactical advantage during army deployment, Scarabs can be used for screening or as objective holders, and Wraiths are decent in cc. I usually run all three units.

Board control with 50 models ? What if you face a list with 150+ pink horrors, cultists, poxwalkers, etc. ? 3 doom scythes ? Why run three units that can easily get destroyed by your opponent without even firing a single shot, or making a single melee attack ?? One DDA is none. You need at least two to compensate for the randomness of a D6. Drop the doom scythes and get 2 more DDAs. Use the rest of the points on imotekh, to buff the two full units of tesla immortals for free, and one more CP. Wraith with particle casters ? You do know that your opponent gets cover in the shooting phase (if inside terrain), if your wraith are in melee with him ? The heat ray on the stalker is only 24" range, what if your preferred target is farther away ?

How's this as an alternative? Plays similarly as the original list, with the exception of what the Deceiver redeploys.

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

The 2nd list is stronger.
The issue with fliers in this edition is that if they have to fly off the board, they're destroyed if they have nowhere to land. Its very stupid.

The nice thing about scarabs is also that they're the best smite screen we have against smite spam armies. Each mortal wound is only 4.33 points, rather than 11 for a warrior, or 15 for an immortal, or 16 for a wraith.

We're in a tough place as far as competitive play goes, so you'll have to play smart and roll well, but this is a solid list.

Agreed. Scarabs are perfect candidates for the Deceiver's redeploy, even though they won't be able to charge turn 1.
