I'm looking to possibly get my hands on the Star Wars: Legion starter box in the not too distant future. I definitely plan to paint the Imperial side first as that's the side I'd definitely prefer to play if I can find anyone who does play. So, most painting tutorials use white or light gray for the base coat, black for weapons, and then some kind of either black shade (Nuln Oil works fine for a black shade) or a light gray shade. I can't think of any light gray shades that Citadel makes. Even mixing it with Lahmian Medium won't help as it'll just make it a thinner black shade.

One of my thoughts, since these shades tend to be pin shades is to actually use a grey Gundam Marker (fine point) that I would use for panel lining a the white parts of a Gundam model to shade these areas on a painted Stormtrooper. Any other ideas? I'd prefer not to have to look to buy new paint as I have a feeling that I'll have tough enough time convincing my wife to let me buy that starter box.

Thanks in advance!

SG

Vallejo makes a grey wash. That's the only grey miniatures wash I've ever seen, although with the extensive size of Army Painter's wash line it wouldn't surprise me if they made one also.

In this case, that's probably the most convenient and accessible option.

I use Vallejo's Black Glaze pretty extensively as a black wash, but they also make a White Glaze. Mix the two and you should get a usable grey wash.

Secret weapon miniatures makes some great washes. I use their “soft body black” (a medium grey) all the time to shade
white, and their “concrete” wash is also a nice soft grey.

Could you not just mix some of the grey paint you already have with Lahmian, or any other matte medium?
