I've always really liked the
DE Mandrake models. And so, a few years ago now, I decided to use one as a Corsair Prince (back when they still existed
), substituting wings for a Jet Pack.
This was the result:
The thing is, whilst I thought it was a passable model at the time (and I was very happy with the negative-fire), there were always several things that bugged me about it:
- Whilst black is the traditional colour for Mandrakes, it meant that most of the details were barely visible.
- The attachment of the wings was a bit of a mess and I was never quite happy with the type of wings I'd used (at the time, they were the only spare ones I had).
- Whilst I like the Huskblade in terms of overall aesthetics, it comes across as being oversized on this model.
Anyway, in spite of Corsairs vanishing into the aether, I decided that I wanted to try and remake this model, but correcting as many of the flaws as I could.
This is what I've got so far:
As you can see, I'm using Scourge Wings this time, which (
IMO) look a lot nicer and are also much easier to angle to fit the model's pose. I've swapped out the Huskblade for a simple Wych Knife. I'll grant that it's a little small but I still prefer that to the oversized Huskblade. I've also changed the colour scheme, leaving the wings black (though I plan to add some interesting details) but otherwise giving the Mandrake alabaster skin and hair.
I think I managed to get the join of the wings to the body a bit neater this time, though I need to finish repainting those areas. The wings probably won't be keeping their blue tint (I was just experimenting), but I do intend to give them some very special details. Also, there's an infuriating crack in his right foot that needs to be fixed.
Anyway, that's what I've got so far.
