They are the most annoying things ever, if you are insecure then deal with it another way, instead of disturbing animals/wild life and us humans who would rather not hear screaming cars/bikes.

Is this agreeable?

Edit - Im not raging or flaming , im really wanting to see what other think and why people think its important to have loud vehicles disturbing the peace.

If you can hear my motorcycle, you know I am nearby.

I'm not trying to get your awe or a thumbs-up.

I would just prefer someone know I am there so they don't flatten me.

In the very few seconds it takes me to pass by wildlife (which I'm pretty sure can go on about their lives with a bit of highway noise) and a person's house, I am completely unconcerned about how 'annoyed' they are and more concerned about some soccer mom playing with facetime or whatever on her phone.

When she hears the exhaust from my bike, she knows I'm nearby and she at least takes a look.

You know what's really annoying?

Drivers that don't pay attention.

And by 'annoying' I mean 'lethal to guys like me on a motorcycle'.

Yeah, guess you're right about hearing etc for some thing like bikes, but there is the unreasonably unnecessarily loud bikes, i mean don't you think there should be a sound limit, they dont need to be so loud it makes your hairs stand up, if that was the case all cars should really be just as loud for sakes of hearing them coming.

Edit - No i changed my mind actually, you as a bike rider should be aware of you're surroundings and drive as such, don't speed for e.g so there is no need at all for hardly any noise.

Edit x2 - Also thats why you have bright lights on the bike that should be kept on during day. Unnecessarily loud bikes for what i guess would be a "cool" factor is lets face it is simply disturbing the peace.

I'm going to let you think on this for a moment- what does a car or truck have that a motorcycle does not? Think about it.

What makes a 'fender bender' in a car different from one on a motorcycle?

Have you ever ridden a motorcycle? My brakes don't work like car brakes. A small object in the road or a sudden dip could mean I'm laying it down and then I'm being dragged under a semi.

"Speediing" has nothing to do with it. The most dangerous places I've ridden on a motorcycle are parking lots at shopping centers, because people in cars aren't paying attention to their surroundings.

So, if you're trying to troll you'll have to do better.

Speeding/Not driving responsibly/Being aware you are on a bike not a car so therefore you need to take extra caution, all these things will help you out with being safe. What does any thing you have said like cars being dangerous have to do with sound levels which is what i'm talking about.

For example, i know bikes brake alot quicker then cars, thats why you dont let cars drive up you're ass mate, you pull over let them pass or signal for them to back off. You don't need to be unnecessarily loud disturbing peace for your transportation purposes.

So what you're saying is, because other drivers are breaking the law- I am the one that should be extra super duper cautious.

Tell me how a woman gets sexually assaulted and 'should not have gone there' or 'should not have worn that'."

Answer the question- have you ever ridden a motorcycle on a highway?

No im saying, why do you need to be loud, i just told you multiple reasons why you don't need to be.

I have ridden a motorbike my whole life and never crashed.

Edit - Im not saying "So what you're saying is, because other drivers are breaking the law- I am the one that should be extra super duper cautious. ". I am saying you dont need to be loud????

And what the heck are you talking about with sexual assault vs the topic at hand which is loud cars and bikes...like come on really?

Here, how about you answer these:

What do I do when someone isn't paying attention and turns into my lane at 60+ MPH?

What about that donkey-cave that decides he wants to throw a half-full soda can out his window without knowing I am behind him?

What about that guy that's not paying attention and doesn't notice the small motorcycle that's a fraction the size of a car and decides to pull out in front of me when I'm going 60+ miles per hour?

You say there's no need for this noise. I'm sorry, but your minor inconvenience is not worth this small chance I've got to not get mangled on my way to my destination.

If someone is repeatedly revving the motor or deliberately making noise, call the police.

You'll have to work a lot harder to convince me you've ridden motorcycles your whole life if you don't understand the importance of being noticed when you're on a highway. I'm not one to flat out call someone a liar, but I will say your claim seems to have very little credibility.

What do I do when someone isn't paying attention and turns into my lane at 60+ MPH? - Answer - You should be more aware of you're surroundings since you're on a bike and they have cars.

What about that donkey-cave that decides he wants to throw a half-full soda can out his window without knowing I am behind him? - Answer - Keep safe distance from other cars.

What about that guy that's not paying attention and doesn't notice the small motorcycle that's a fraction the size of a car and decides to pull out in front of me when I'm going 60+ miles per hour? - Answer - You should be more aware of you're surroundings since you're on a bike and they have cars.

You say there's no need for this noise. I'm sorry, but your minor inconvenience is not worth this small chance I've got to not get mangled on my way to my destination. - Answer Sort of - What does what i have explained previously with what keeps you safe make you think sound is important?

If someone is repeatedly revving the motor or deliberately making noise, call the police. - Is this a question?

You'll have to work a lot harder to convince me you've ridden motorcycles your whole life if you don't understand the importance of being noticed when you're on a highway. I'm not one to flat out call someone a liar, but I will say your claim seems to have very little credibility.

You are just assuming nonsense in my opinion, why don't you argue a point as to why i am wrong about some thing instead of giving up and calling me a troll. Any way cya.

You asked if it was agreeable. You also deliberately muddied the waters by default labeling it a crime or a 'wrong'.

When presented with an opinion as to why you were wrong, your response was the equivalent of 'git gud m8', and blatantly from the perspective of a person that's never been on a motorcycle. You may as well have said "just dodge m8".

I gave you a reason. I've had people agree with the reasoning and some will disagree.

Your purpose in this thread is not to 'debate', it's to bicker and start arguments. Obvious trolling.

Good luck with your next thread.

No i didn't label it as that, you're wrong i'm afraid.

My response included plenty of examples as to why noise is not needed and you have not responded to one of them explaining why i am wrong, instead you cast many assumptions that really don't get this conversation any where.

"Just drive better and don't speed" isn't a response to anything I've said.

Again, obvious troll is obvious.

Does not compute. Not the best start.

Europe I believe already has laws that limit decibel levels on motorcycles. ‘Arrow” brand exhausts for instance, are notoriously quiet to the point where folks complain that their Triumph becomes even more quiet than the stock exhaust(usually not the case, hence why its a shock to some Americans who are used to aftermarket bikes for Jap or Harley bikes.). Some performance exhausts in the USA come with “For track use only” that implies a law is in place somewhere on decibel levels, but its usually more of a friendly suggestion, as I’ve never seen someone get ticketed, though there are tales.

I’m unashamedly biased, as I’ve been around bikes all my life and its my profession, but I’d say the folks that have their car stereo blaring are more annoying than exhaust sounds. The only time loud exhausts bother me are when they pop incessantly . Get a new jet kit and/or get your bike tuned, you cheapskate. And adventure riding will be my preferred two wheel experience from here on out. Too many close calls with idiot drivers in the B-more area.

Not really a believer in the “loud pipes save lives”, but if it makes people feel more secure on their ride, more power to them.

A light bar, brighter bulbs or just riding with your highbeams on is my preferred tactic to let folks know where I am at. Or was, as I sold my bike a year ago to save up for a bigger place.
