With the upcoming Primaris Eliminators, I think it's pretty clear we're looking at the gradual phasing out of minimarines. However, I also think it's a pretty cynical, if clever, move by GW. And that's from a person who likes the new aesthetic and has a pure Primaris army.

But I also have a scout-based Raptors army. Fully Painted and based with conversions etc etc.

My question is, if I rebased my scouts on 32mm bases and raised them up a mil or two, could they be reasonably used as Eliminator proxies?

Models will still be available and playable for years. But you will definitely see rules-pinch, where oldmarines are made less and less competitive, I suspect. And no, scout and primaris are worlds away in proportions and size, I think in any competitive game you wouldn't be able to use them as proxies. With your mates, absolutely, call it and play it.

I'll field my 3rd edition plague Marines next to my 8th edition Plague marines, despite them being at least a head shorter. I don't think it'll be a big problem if you let your opponent know beforehand, that these actually are not using scoutrules.

I dunno, that's a pretty different situation in my opinion.

Scouts are a completely different unit in the same game. Different scale, different armour, different rules.

If you wanted to try out Eliminators using Scouts as proxies, sure. But for my 2 cents it's not a long term solution.

As the other poster above said too, no way this would cut it in any tournament.

You could proxy them like vindicare assassins instead if people whine about proportions

The Eliminators look like elite commando snipers , which is very different from what Scouts are,

As for phasing out the old Marines, it will happen eventually but not for a long time, and the range will be supported by rules for a long, long time. No point in complaining about it.

And no, you can't proxy the Scouts as these guys. I have 10k of classic Marines fully painted and I don't use that as a lame excuse for not buying the new Primaris models.

'My unit of situationally useful snipers is now a Detachment of allied killing machines. Or we could just say they're Primaris in Reaver armour....'

That'd be funny. Irritating, but funny.

Heavy Support option versus Troops is the one thing we're pretty confident about, and that alone still keeps scouts as viable.

We've also been hearing for like 2 years now how Primaris is pushing out minimarines, but honestly outside of Intercessors, no Primaris units have pushed out their smaller brethren. And even for Intercessors it took several rounds of points drops.

They're all worse than their old marine comparables. And Vigilus shows rules aren't disappearing for the mini friends either as it includes several specialist detachments with mini marines starring.

From my personal experience in both casual and competitive (Tourneys) games, so long are you are not mixing Scouts and Eliminators in the same list (all one or the other) using your Scout models on 32mms would be just fine.

What is important is that you have a Marine sized sniper with a cloak that is a GW model. Since Scouts fit that description, putting them on 32mm bases would 100% be fine.
I don't know of anyone personally that would have a problem with this, so long as you aren't also running true scouts
