While I am sure that most people would have no issue with this being used as a substitute for an Armageddon-Pattern Medusa or Basilisk, I am still wondering if there is a way it could be justified lore-wise. Could it be possible that perhaps some of these survived in storage for such an extended period between the Heresy and 40k era that they could be brought back and used? Or would they most likely be rusted into oblivion by that point?

On moon miranda.

Look no further than the Siege of Vraks story, where all sorts of stuff was pulled out of the Vraksian reserves going back many millenia that otherwise was almost never seen. Variant artillery hulls should have no problem being justified with a little bit of thought.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I think its reasonable but at the end of the day they look like leman russ hulls that have been refitted to become basilisks. Cant see why it couldnt be done

Sure, of course you can justify anything fluff/lore wise. It's not hard.

Here, use this:
10k years ago a fully laden Solar Auxillia transport ship entered the warp bound for _____.
Yesterday(or whatever dates convenient for your head cannon) it emerged, & is in-place conveniently in time to take part in whatever battle you need to justify some fluff/lore for.
To the crew, troops, & equipment only a day had passed. For the rest of the universe though....

the best thing about 40k lore is that not only can it be justified but it can be in tons of different ways
>appeared back out of the warp
>planet x still produces them so their regiments use them
>x planet still rolls out their ancient tech to still fight with
>stc was just rediscovered on your homeworld to make these

The best "reason" is a "Squat" performed "field repairs / upgrades" resulting in this unit created with a few odds and sods pulled from storage.

A local manufacotrum on a hive world received a grant to produce Basilisk and Medusa self propelled artillery. They were issued STC copies but due to some bureaucratic error, they received these variant "Saturyne" pattern vehicles and, well, there we are...

The manufacturers were later put to death by the Mechanicus for heresy...
