I tried a half hour or so of googling on this and came up empty, so I thought I'd ask here.

An old veteran is trying to finish a set of dioramas on the Pacific theater WWII, and I've offered to help. He's not sure what he wants to do for Okinawa, and I'm going to suggest a mortar team since there isn't one in his set I IIRC. I can't seem to find some US mortar teams in the correct uniform however, at least in 1/35 or 1/32, though I bet Bolt action has some in 28mm. My historical miniatures know how is weak, and my WWII lore is only so so however.

Does anyone either know of such a set, or know of a store with a good searchable catalog of historicals?

Failing that, any good kits that are Okinawa specific you can recommend?

Thanks!

Check out fields of glory models, emodels or wonderland models. They're the main ones I use for scale.

Quick search doesn't give me any results for usmc mortar trams but a little conversion work and you could probably knock one up using a different factions mortars.

Bolt action would probably be the best bet.

Thanks! I'm hoping to avoid 28mm if I can... I should ask at the local historical FLGS.

I'm amazed that there are no options given the widespread use of support weapons like that in the Pacific. But I checked my usual places and couldn't find a single one.

Your best bet may be to purchase some Masterbox Marine sets and add a mortar from a western front set. The issue is the crew won't be actually 'using it' unless you do some conversion work. Really can't see much alternative.
