If you have crusaders from astra militarum in the same army that has adepta soritas , do they count toward your total unit count for sorita acts of faith? I’m assuming not as it says “with this ability” and not “with acts of faith” but figured I’d ask. And is chapter approved 2018 the most recent sorita rules?

If you're using Crusaders and the Beta Adepta Sororitas codex, you need to use the Adepta Sororitas datasheet, as per the Designers note at the start of the Beta Adepta Sororitas codex. As they have the "Act of Faith" ability they naturally follow the "Act of Faith" rules. While CA18 are the most recent rules for Adepta Sororitas, they are in "beta", for whatever that is worth.

But if I remove the sorita detatchment the crusaders revert back to militarum rules?

It depends on if you're using the beta rules or not. If you're using the Astra Copywritum codex and not the Beta Adepta Sororitas codex, you'll use the Astra Copywritum codex rules. If you're using the Astra Copywritum codex and the Beta Adepta Sororitas codex, you'll use the Beta Adepta Sororitas codex rules as per the designers note, even if you're not using a Beta Adepta Sororitas codex detachment. CA18, Page 69 wrote:The biggest difference between the two arises from the revised Acts of Faith ability. As noted, this is one of the rules we would most like to get your feedback on; as such, if you are using Crusaders as part of an Astra Militarum army, please use the datasheet and all rules for them as presented in this beta codex until the full Codex: Adepta Sororitas is published, whereupon we will also make any necessary updates to Codex: Astra Militarum.

GW says the new datasheet found in CA18 is the one to use. You can't just ignore what's written in CA18 because you're only using AM codex, just like you can't say "I don't own CA18 so I don't use the updated point values".
Whether or not you use beta rules is to be agreed before the game. Discuss it with your opponent or the TO, if it's an organized event. Usually bets rules are treated just like regular rules, but that's just my personal experience.

If for some reason the group doesn't want to play with the beta rules, you pretty much have to AM entry as you won't be using the beta rules for Acts of Faith in CA18, so have to default to a fully functioning entry for them.

Yes, but you said that after

without qualifying using the AM entry in CA19 only if you're using the beta rules. I'm just pointing out it would be part of the discussion too.

Apologies. I didn't think that it was necessary to qualify that a beta codex is a set of beta rules. I thought the context of it being the post right after BCB stating that the beta codex is beta rules would be enough.

You can absolutely ignore beta rules.

As long as all involved agree - sure.

I mean, you can choose to ignore any and all rules if you want. It's just that if you ignore one you open the door to ignoring all of them, which is a bad time for everyone involved.

I disagree, as long as everyone is on the same page it's absolutely fine. I wouldn't enjoy games with RAW Assault weapons, for example.
Dropping rules for a good reason is actually a good way to play the game as long as you don't go full-on "my marines have 60 wounds REEEEEEE".
So is skipping badly designed beta rules once you've tested them and went "yeah, deathwatch are too strong with both SiA and full range rapid firing".

Nope. Nice slippery slope fallacy attempt. Try again. Beta rules are for testing. They are in no way compulsory to use. Even with your aversion to house rules this is not that. If both players think it’s ok you can play without them - you’ve even argued this yourself in the past when complaining about people calling beta rules “rules”, or vice versa. ;-)

When GW themselves mark them as optional how on earth you can claim they are not optional? Beta rules are by definition not mandatory.
