Hi guys, just a quick one really, I am planning on having Chaos Spawn in my 40k CSM army (potentially only 1 as you can have a unit of 1) I am not a massive fan of the models though and although relatively familar with the 40k lineup, I am not with the AoS or Forgeworld etc.

Anything that could be used as a sub?

EDIT: SEcond question I'll just tag it on here, but any ideas when the new obliterators will be available seperately in their own box?

Oh, goodness, spawn are the epitome of kitbashing. basically any blob of bits, spikes, and arms can reasonably be called a chaos spawn. I made up some of my own a little while back.

I used a AoS Ogre, Rat-Ogre, and some 40k fenrisian wolves to start them off.

And for the oblits, it took the new ork buggies like 4 months or so to come out separate of the board game. That being said, be certain they WILL come out stand alone oblits.

just to say the Sigmar range has a number of different options for 'counts as' spawn - some may even fit your army patron.

But seeing as the spawn is the fate of many a failed chosen one, why not grab a 50mm base and glue an artistic arrangement of CSM parts to it? Add some tentacles/wings to taste, and there you go.

SPawn have so many options :O I have some made from difernt things in the Warmachine and horde lines.
Been looking at Wyrd Malifaux for some alternatives for chaos stuff adn there otherside game looks to have some great options as well.

Its worth getting as much idea as you can when you can go so crazy

Spawn is practically "loot your bit box for anything remotely biological and glue some random stuff" level of ease to make your own.

Honestly the one unit in the game that has no reason to have an official kit.

The official kit is still nice for its loads of mutations you can throw on the rest of your CSM army
For Nurgle-spawn you may look at Kromlech, they have very characterful alternatives.

Maybe you want some consistency in your spawn. I find that the Vargheists/Cript Horror box is a nice base for some spawn bodies.

Yeah, Crypt Horrors would make good spawn. I use Dark Eldar chimerae...but they're a little on the small side (might impact it in a tournament setting).

I use the Khorgorath or whatever from AoS to use as a Khorne Spawn.

The beauty of chaos is that anything goes really. You can come up with a lot of interesting things.

Even using the Gal Vorbak from Horus Heresy as a chaos marine spawn would be awesome.

Just go to town with conversions on them. Mine are made from as random an assortment of bits you could ask for. One for example is made from a toy dragon head which is now pointed upwards.

Just grab a load of bits (but tread carefully. I see many a terrible Spawn conversion from randomly throwing any old bits around) and just make the most disturbing things you can think of. The way I did this with mine was to at least retain the original human head. Stuck somewhere on (or in) the body as a reminder of what it once was.

Honestly from a ball of greenstuff a CHaos spawn set and spikes you can make 3-4 easily.

I'd personally tread lightly on the Nid and GSC bits. They are super recognisable and can take away from good conversion work IMO.

Depends more problematic is the iconography imo, needs a lot off cutting down.

I saw on the one far right that you did indeed use normal spawn bodies aswell.
Still really impressive work.

When you throw enough green stuff at the wall, some wont stick. Use that.
