Greetings, Would a Proteus pattern Rotor Cannon Set be an acceptable stand in for the Reaper Chain Cannon in a Havoc Squad?

I was thinking about getting Mark III Space Marines ten man set and making two five man Havoc Units for My Alpha Legion & Thousand Sons.

The useful answer being - the rules don't cover the use of proxies, so it's something that would depend on you and your opponent, or the TO in the case of organised play. For the most part, people won't care so long as your proxy isn't confusing. ie: any rotor cannons in your army are being used as the same weapon, and the proxy isn't something wildly inappropriate.

rotor cannons have been sold out for weeks at forge world simply because everyone is buying them to use as chain cannons because GW in its ineptitude (or genius) decided to only include 1 in the sprue.

Yes, everyone is going to be converting the chain cannons from rotor cannons because chain cannons are amazing and rotor cannons are the worst thing i've ever seen in the game.
