Subject: Question about how light works...( re phrased question )

This is probably a stupid question, but i need to figure this out. If light is hitting an object, do the smallest areas of the object where the brightest areas of the light's hitting become brighter because there is less room for the light to be absorbed therefore brighter or whats the deal? Thank you very much.
Edit - Please delete this thread once question has been answered, embarrassing question really because it should be obvious i guess.
EDIT Here is an example of what im talking about. I circled Abaddons thumb here in red to show what im referring to exactly. Im trying to understand why that's ( the thumb ) brighter.....i know its a ridiculously small question, but i really want to know if its because of what i said above. I think i know the answer, but im not 100% so i want a experts answer if thats ok.

Err, what? Light hits an object with a certain amount of energy per unit of area, a smaller object receives less light than a larger object. If the thumb is brighter it's either because it's in a position to catch more light (whether by sticking out more or being better aligned with the light direction) or the artist just fudged the reality of it a bit to make a small detail a bit more prominent visually.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Ohh ok, thanks Peregrine. So simple an answer, that's why i was embarrassed, but wanted an experts opinion so made this thread. I couldn't figure it out though.
Cheers.

The thumb is a good example of where you'd selectively use an edge highlight regardless of how realistic or not it would be, to pick out a detail. So when I paint abaddon, regardless of where my light source is I'm going to edge highlight that thumb; other wise it will get lost amongst the shadows of the hand and not look as good. I find most small objects on a model fall into this sort of category. They need picking out to make the paint job effective.

Storm you must know about lighting and highlighting, looking at your GUO, you have the correct idea
The intestines and the hand holding the sword also the face, it's much better than what I would have come up with

Haha the intensites look like that by accident. I was dry brushing GUO with Screaming skull, and the whole time i was also hitting the intestines which i never realised untill after ahahahaha ( hard to believe i know ). I was supposed to highlight him in lighter pinks but yeah..... as i say this whole thing is unexpected, dont know how it got to how it is.
Thanks for your kind words Rybrook.
