Just bought the Primaris chaplain model and I absolutely love it, just thinking of what litanies I could use for him in a very shooting centric Primaris crimson fists army.

I'm thinking he could go with the +1 to hit litany and sit in the gunline and then when the enemy gets too close to canticle of hate and charge!

the plus one to hit defo helped my devi's (obv not primais) in a game i played but at the points,,, dunno just feel like a waste (with other chars doing reliable aura buffs). he's better off in combat.

i'd go smash chaplin on him with the relic and put him with some dudes maybe agressors and use his +1s etc litany.

I get the feeling that I'm going to be going for the +1 to wound one a lot, as it bumps a 5+ to wound (Grav against vehicles) to a 4+, and then the Stratagem gives a reroll to the Grav, bringing a 33% chance to wound to a 75% chance to wound.

I'm thinking the +1 to hit and 5+++ with be top picks generally speaking. The +1 will work well for any unit and can be used against any enemy forces, not just the closest target as is the case with the +1 to wound. The 5+++ will work very well as a counter pick against psychic heavy armies and a nice counter pick to them if you pick after seeing the enemy army. I am not sure if you pick in list building or like pre-game like you do psychic powers.

Yeah not a bad shout, I'm thinking of putting him near my Repulsor executioner and then using him as a counter charge when the enemy gets closer to me.

Whilst Litany of Faith's 5+++ sounds good, remember that this is only works against Mortal Wounds. It is however a 6" aura so affects all units it it. As others have said excellent against smite and MW reliant affects.

Recitation of Focus' +1 to hit only affects a unit, but can apply to whatever that unit can wants to shoot at.

Catechism of Fire's +1 to wound only affects a unit when they fire at the closest visible unit. As Marines usually hit alot, +1 to wound to often a more benifical trait.

All have thier pros and cons.

As for what's best for you can't say. Think of a) the synergy the each of there affects offers to the rest of the army and b) how reliant on the affect are you?

Yeah definitely thinking the +1 to wound would be great. I could roll my chaplain up behind my Repulsor get closer to a tough enemy unit and unleash all the dakka at plus 1 to wound.

I can't believe how many times I've read the litany of faith without noticing that it's only on mortal wounds. That's disappointing!
I'll have to have a serious rethink now. I was wondering why people weren't jumping on that as the obvious choice!

The one that buffs himself + the relic Crozius gives you a Smashplain. Still not as good as the basic Captain though because he already rerolls to hit for himself and doesn't require a 3+ to get an effect off.

It's really too bad the 5+++ is not just a targeted FNP buff. That is what marines needed. Not mortal wounds protection. Librarians already have a spell that does that. Plus the vehicles can get it for 1 CP. Best use I can think of is to buff a repuslor executioner with plasma - Give him a +1 to hit and you cant overheat. Plus a million other guns that can hit better too.

For shooting, I feel the +1 BS is more useful than the +1 to wound, since the +1 B's can be at any target, not just the closest. That said against knights or something it'd be easier to set up.

Really it'd depend on opponent, you get to pick per game just like pyskers and wlt

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

Litany of Faith is gonna be fantastic vs smite spamming armies. Pair with a Librarian or so, and you have some resiliency for sure.

I think the one that gives +2 to charges and 6” pile in and consolidate might be best.

There’s a pretty evil combo for raven guard. Take a chaplain with this litany and the warlord trait that lets him and a unit teleport at the start of round 1. Do the litany first to check that it works as both happen at the same step. Send him and 6 assault centurions across the board. Turn one begins - have fun.
