Hi!

So a guy in my group plays World Eaters and we had a situation this weekend and a couple of questions appeared.

Khorne Berzerkers can fight twice in the fight phase yes?
But how does this actually work?

Do they activate, pile-in, fight, resolve attacks and consolidate. And then all of these steps once again if they still are within 1" of an enemy.

Let's give som examples.

K= Khorne Berzerkers
I= Intercessors
H= Hellblasters

Khorne Berzerkers charge a unit of intercessors and end up like this:

HHHHH
I I I I I
KKKKK

The Berzerks then wipe the Intercessors and consolidate into a unit of Hellblasters standing behind the Intercessors.
Ending up like this:

HHHHH
KKKKK

Can the Berzerks now active again and fight a second time? We said no because the Berzerkers didn't charge the Hellblasters and you can't attack a unit you didn't charge right?

However, if the World Eaters player said that the Berzerkers are charging both the Intercessors and the Hellblasters, provided they are both within range, and survive the overwatch.
Can the Berzerks then activate, attack the Intercessors and if they wipe the unit consolidate into the Hellblasters and active their second time?

Yes, with Berserkers you go through every step of the Fight Phase for the unit twice. So they pile in, fight, consolidate, pile in, fight, consolidate.

As you said though, if you charged then you can only allocate attacks when you fight to units you declared a charge against.

Also bare in mind you can only declare a charge against a unit that you are withing 12" of BEFORE you charge. That means the Hellblasters may be too far away to declare against even though it's entirely possible for the Berserkers to reach them.

This depends on what happened in charge phase.

If in the Charge phase the Khorne Bezerkers are within 12" of both Intercessors and Hellblasters. And declare charge against both, then this is perfectly fine (providing they survive).

As you can only fight against units you declared a charge against.

However if the Hellblasters were more than 12" away making them an ineligible unit for declaring or they failed to declare a charge against them, then they cannot attack even with their second time and the Hellblasters get some free digs in.

So to summarize, yes this is perfectly fine as long as long as both units are within 12" and a charge was declared against both.

There are some shenanigans you can pull off. Even if the hellblasters are more than 12" away you might be able to consolidate into them, and tie them up in melee, by circling around the intercessors (if you dont kill all of them). You wouldnt be able to attack them, but they cant shoot next turn when they fall back, or they stay in melee.

From the Warhammer 40,000 Main Rulebook FAQ:

Q: If a rule states that you can choose a unit to ‘fight again’, what does this mean exactly?

A: Repeat the entire Fight phase for that unit – i.e. choose to fight with the unit, pile in with that unit, choose its target, choose its melee weapon, resolve its close combat attacks, then consolidate with it.
