With the new Codex and Supplement I'm dusting off my 5th ed Salamanders, given the large number of better than battle ready/ approaching parade ready models i already have I'm sticking with old marines and will NOT be going Primaris, so no aggressors- sorry.

Also 1500points is tricky as there's not a lot of room to squeeze in things.

So LIST 1:
Salamanders 1500pts
79 PL
13 Command points (2x Battalion + 3BF)

HQs:
Vulkan Hestan
List points

Techmarine: Servo arm, power axe, bolt pistol
50pts

Lieutenant: MC Boltgun
63pts

Librarian: Force sword, BP
88pts.

TROOPS
5 Man Tactical squad: Flamer, Combiflamer, Thunder Hammer:
90pts

5 Man Tactical squad: Meltagun, combimelta. Chainsword
89pts

5 Man Tactical squad: Heavy Bolter, CombiPlasma Chainsword
85pts

5 Man Tactical squad: Lascannon, Chainsword
76pts

5 Man Tactical squad: Lascannon, Chainsword
85pts

5 man Scout Squad: 4x Sniper Rifles, 1x ML
83pts

ELITES
8 Man Sternguard, 3x Combiflamer, 1x Heavy Flamer, 1x Combimelta, 3x SI bolter, Thunderhammer
181points

Dread- Twin Las, heavy flamer, DCCW
134points

FAST ATTACK
Landspeeder, HF, MM.
81points

HEAVY SUPPORT:
Vindicator w SB
127points

TRANSPORTS
Rhino 2x SB

Rhino 2x SB
Both 69pts

PLAN:
1 Rhino has Vulkan, Librarian and Sternguard inside it
1 Rhino has combi flamer and Combi melta Tacticals inside
Both trundle forward then unload for Stratagem carnage and a Vulkan bubble

HB/ Plasma Tactical and Lieutenant midfield, using HB to fish for MW with stratagem, or have option to switch for Plas/combiplas, also stick close to the Dread for mutual support

Lascannon Tacticals are for long range support and to hold objectives.

Scouts are for area denial esp of deep strike, etc and they used to be a pain in the backside to shift in cover

Landspeeders I love, now the have the reroll the MM/HF combo is better than it was, ideally I'd take two- see below.

Vindicator- This serves two purposes- 1, it's seemingly not popular in 8th ed but still has a FOBG, I'm hoping fear of this and the fact most opponents won't have faced one recently will lead to them attempting to kill it early on, tech marine tries to fix it and also if they are killing it then the Rhinos can get forward. 2- The demolisher cannon when it hits still does a lot of damage.

QUESTIONS:
1) Would the Vulkan/Librarian/Sternguard Combo be better in a drop pod than a rhino?? I only have one painted pod so multiple drops not an option

2) Should I drop the vindicator and take more Landspeeders? my worry here is that the rhino(s) will then die quite early.

Other painted models that could be used:
Ancient, Apothecary, Veterans with various weapons, 3 more sternguard with combi meltas, numerous tactical marines with, 2x ML, 2x MM, 3x plasma guns 2x meltas, Assault squad with jump packs.
Terminator assault squad, Terminator Squad with either HF or AC, Other painted arms for the Dread (ML, AC)
Drop pod (as above), Land raider Redeemer. Landspeeders with MM, HF.

Thank you

I think most lists should have a DP or 2.

However, with the Deep Strike rules you will have to be outside of Flamer Range.

That said you can drop them in cover and/or Salamanders are tough as hell now. So they can whether a round of shooting and with rerolls might make a charge if you push it.

Might also be a better choice for mid ranged weapons meltas and what not.

FASTA, DAKKA, WAAAGH, KRUMP, ORKS WIN AGAIN!!!
