Am only just starting out!

Will update if/when I get more and also on how it plays.

Start looking at Command Traits and Artifacts. They'll do more good on VLoZD but still these will give you an inkling of how to use your heroes and most importantly teach you to remember to use their effects! Many people forget traits, artifacts, allegiance abilities (like vampire bloodlines) and miss out on a lot of potential power. Oh yeah and pick a Bloodline. Dragon Warriors is solid but theres another that lets your knights move +2" and fly. Which is pretty dope.

The non-GW miniatures (mostly Mantic) I intended to use for my Soulblight Vampires AoS army have been a dreadful disappointment. Will be sticking to 40k and GW miniatures for the foreseeable future...

I mentioned it in the other thread, but if you're sticking to GW then for me the best route will be Chaos Knights with a head swap. You can get them on ebay real cheap.

Thanks. Might look into it if I decide to try again

One easy conversion I know people did was dragon knights with vampire count bits, but I guess that's no longer an option. Chaos knights are probably your best bet, although I'd still have a look around. What was your problem with the mantic models?

Thanks.

Mantic models were just impossible to work with. Poor materials, sculpts and parts.

What was the problem with material quality? I remember mantic models having odd anatomy but the polystyrene was fine, or have they switched to something like pvc?

I think for your conversion chaos knights are probably your best base. I would look into vampire counts and empire kits so that you can get some bits to convert your knights with. Maybe get empire greatswords for those gothic helmets. Also if you're comfortable with greenstuff ghoul heads might look really good on any helmetless models. Also plastic tube for lances might be a worthwhile idea to look into. Also I would build the chaos knights without shoulderpads as pauldroncore isn't really how gothic knights look like.

I think it's this weird restic stuff. Heavier than GW resin, but cuts and glues poorly and doesn't fit well unless perfectly shaped (which it never is).

I think your problem was that those were PVC. I wonder how one ought to work with PVC since it behaves so differently from polystyrene. Also for converting those knights, I think one neat idea would be to take drakespawn knight mounts and torsos, grab some helmets from demigryph knights and then add undead resin shields from GW.

I think you're right. It's really hard to work with. I was making some ladders out of leftover GW sprue for terrain last night, and was thinking how easy it was to cut/mold and glue together. I found the PVC impossible to work with. The slots where parts were supposed to fit together were too roughly shaped, too. Some of the holes were too big to fit the matching parts into and other parts were too big/poorly molded to fit properly into the holes. And the Revell glue I was using (which I use for all my plastic kits - from Airfix to all my 40k models - and works brilliantly) just wouldn't hold them together. I could have forgiven the sculpts if I could have actually put the darn things together and had a go at painting them, at least!

Never mind. It's a lesson learned, I guess.

That's a neat idea, but I think it would work out quite expensive. The GW 'Death' upgrade pack (with the banner and shields) would definitely work well (and is reasonably priced). Am thinking if I do try again with a Soulblight army to use those in conjunction with a plastic GW Dark Rider kit - they have the elegant yet deadly look of vampires and should be fairly easy to work with.

Have decided to play Tomb Kings instead! Got a fab character miniature from the Reaper Bones collection (check out my gallery) to use as a Tomb King, and am going to get some Reaper Bones Mummy warriors (to use as Tomb Guard) and Egyptian god avatars (to use as Ushabti)

This should be of interest to you. Advertisements won't fething.leave me alone.

As far as list writing goes, TKs with Death allegiance aren't... Unplayable? But I would say they might be unplayable.

Instead, make some substitutions for Bonereapers. Bonereapers are pretty good and enjoyable to play with. You can use catapults as crawler and Ushabti as the big stalker/immortis guys and mummy Giants as Gothizzar harvesters. And if you dont like the fluff, just say theyre newly risen Tomb Mummies/Kings/homies following the Necroquake.

No chariots but chariots seem a bit out of the picture for someone just chipping in to TKs.

Thanks for the tip! I've changed the composition a bit (will update soon) with Tomb Queen as general and more battleline models (and fewer Tomb Guard). Still 500pts total. Will see how first match goes, and if I get slaughtered, will definitely look into subbing as Bonereapers, Did think of that originally, but I really don't like the fluff or the concept (although some of the models are decent, and I appreciate they're a powerful fighting force).
