Thinking of swapping an out a 1/32 scale m113 apc as a rhino troop carrier, it is virtually the exact same size and all id need to do is swap some guns out And add that 40k aesthetic. Obviously I couldn’t use it in competitions but not sure how people would react to it in smaller in-store/club games? Any input?

I doubt anyone would care so long as they knew what it was and it look suitable for the part. Speaking only for myself if it's a cool model, that's all I really value as well as it being round about the same size.

As long as it's roughly the same size and you actually put some effort into making it look "40k" then I personally wouldn't give a flying feth.

Ok cool yea I like the model itself and it filled the exact same roll in Vietnam as what the rhino does in 40k. Just need to figure out side doors and switching or modding the turret gun out but I’ve got a bunch of spare Razorback and predator parts/ insignias. I’ll post picks as I make progress and see what everyone thinks as the input is always helpful, so if anyone has anything they think would look cool or work please let me know thoughts and ideas.

Don’t think the side doors are necessary - the 113 has rear doors. It’s not as if doors are even an issue in 8th.

I always work on the principle of ‘if it’s cool, it’s cool’. Add 40k bits to taste and play on.

I think that's awesome! We're pretty open to stuff like this where I play, and I think rightly so.

It will depend entirely upon people you're playing with though. As long as you check it with them and make it clear, I can't see why there should be a problem really.

For the Emperor and Sanguinius!

Ok cool, yes side doors seem like I’d really be chopping that thing apart. I’ve got the chassis beside a Razorback and the only difference is about about a cmlonger with the m113, trying to attach a photo but I’m new to Dakka Dakka so don’t know how haha

Most people wouldn't care that it's not a GW model, and most of the folks I know/play with would appreciate a cool conversion.

You wouldn't be able to use it in a GW store or official event, though. They're pretty strict about only allowing GW/FW products. Understandable of course, but important to know for these kinds of projects.

You may well be able to use it in other events or tournaments, though. Those unaffiliated with GW will probably allow it, as long as it a) is roughly the correct size and shape for the unit it represents, b) is easily recognisable amongst the rest of your army as the unit it's supposed to be, and c) has the correct weapon and wargear options modelled so that your opponent is not confused during the game. In this case, you'll want to make sure you have identifiable storm bolters/hunter killers, if you're taking them. Cool conversions are generally allowed; confusing your opponent is not.

Cool I’m pretty happy with the result, I still need to do detail painting but otherwise I think it looks good and fills the part. I ordered two more as to keep the army uniform let me know thoughts/ opinions, or things I can do to improve upon it. Still need to figure out how to make razor backs or preds out of either the same model or similar, I was thinking of using a Bradley tank but not sure if I can find the right scale. Thanks anyways everyone and here’s the rough final apart from details.

As with every conversion, for most people it comes down to two things.

1) Does it fit the aesthetic of 40K.
2) Did you actually make an effort.

You've painted your vehicle to match, added some 40K bits, and the size is close enough. That shouldn't raise anyone's hackles.

Whoot, now I want to convert some Huey’s in place of a storm raven just need to dick around with the rotor blades and add some weaponry. Hardest thing it to find the same scale that is actually sold. Probably gunna invest in a 3d printer right away and start making my own bits and parts to chop or at least sci-fi it up a bit but yea two more “rhinos” then air support. Either way won’t be a super competitive list as any opponent will see that I’m trying to use a moving castle and then drop troops in behind as a way to close the enemy in on both sides. I’m just not a fan of how childish a lot of the 40k space marine vehicles look imo they are a bit too exaggerated for an army of human “mutants” I like having it kind of like fallout 1 and 2

I think the scale is perfect here’s a regular marine( not Primaris)
