"SALUTE HAS BEEN POSTPONED

It is with deep regret that we must announce that Salute 2020, due to be hosted by the South London Warlords wargames club, at London Excel on Saturday 18th April 2020, is being postponed.

Due to the ongoing, unprecedented crisis with the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The Club committee has taken this decision following the recent change in Government advice and with the likely ongoing uncertainty in mind. We understand that this will impact all of you and therefore, as you can imagine, this difficult decision has not been taken lightly or easily: we have balanced all the great things about Salute with the health risks to traders, gamers and attendees.

Salute will now take place on Saturday 17th April 2021.

Your booking will be transferred and be valid for this new date on the same terms. The Salute team are already working on details of how we work through the coming year with you to be ready for 2021.

Your patience is appreciated during this time as we finalise the necessary details and logistics.

Please understand that the South London Warlords remain committed to hosting Salute. We have hosted the show for over 45 years. With the support of our traders and attendees Salute has become the biggest one-day independent wargames show in Europe and an important event within the wargames calendar. The South London Warlords wish to see this continue.
Sincerely

The South London Warlords"

So, not so much postponed as cancelled since April 17th is roughly when next years show would have been. I wonder if that wording is intentional, since there doesn't seem to be any mention of refunds.. although given the low entry cost, I don't suppose many visitors would be upset at loosing that tenner if it means Salute stays around for 2021.

Ah well, at least I didn't pre-pay for my hotel this year!

Yeah....I did....

the wording and no mention of refunds does seem a little bit dodgy, if they moved it to something like september/november then yeah, it's postponed, but unless they plan on running two events side by side, they should just cop to it being cancelled.

Bit weird of them to announce it at 11:30 at night, too.

With a lot of these events they will have incurred the bulk of the costs already and won’t be able to get a refund themselves so they are likely just not to be able to refund people. I have just had 32 running races cancelled between March and May with the smaller events have been able to defer to later in the year but the bigger ones not being able to afford to (and laying off staff to survive).

It’s a crappy situation all round really.

On the positive for me, an early Easter and late Salute means that I can actually attend for the first time in a few years which I am already looking forward to.

Makes perfect sense to say postponed instead of cancelled

I'm sure they will offer refunds, but the language they use is designed to encourage people not to seek refunds as a first measure. A smart move considering a lot of people are starting to or are worried they will feel a budget pinch as jobs shut down or reduce hours. So suddenly you've a lot of people who don't need much if any reason to start cancelling things to get money back.

It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of holidays and events pre-booked for next year are seeing early cancellations by those suddenly laid off.

Read the post on Facebook, wording is indeed a bit interesting and I don't think refunds will be incoming.

Just glad that I could get a refund on both the hotel and train tickets in the end. Would love to get everything back, but c'est la vie.

Basically, they say postponed so they can keep the funds and your tickets for next year are paid for. You don’t get a refund, you don’t have to pay for a ticket to go in 2021. If you were planning to go next year anyway, you lose nothing. If you only planned to go this year, try to go next year instead or try to get a refund as it gets closer.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Due to work, I can usually only ship any sales or trades out on Saturday morning. Please trade/purchase with this in mind.

From Facebook:

UPDATE: though tickets sales through the provider SeeTickets come with a ‘no refunds’ condition, we have done a deal with SeeTicket to refund a ticket purchase if requested. The site has/ will be suitably updated , the link to customer service/refund is https://support.seetickets.com/?Website=main

Good news for those that know they can't go next year,

hopefully as many folk as possible who think they will try next year will let their tickets ride to leave the show in as strong a financial position as possible

No guarantee I can go next year, so will await an email from the ticket vendor and get my refund sorted then.
