It's not bad it's just a little whacky, some people would rather compromise on aesthetic to have something individual, so it's your choice.
As for taking the pictures, you need dispersed light. So take them outside or by a window or just a very well lit room (modern kitchens usually have really good lighting.) it can also help to put a white sheet of paper behind the models to help your camera focus and reflect more light.

The paint job looks solid though honestly.
