Hi all,

It's been a while since I posted on here... about 7 years! I've started this blog to try and kick my own backside into getting all my new stuff made and painted, especially now that a global pandemic has left me with a lot more time on my hands. I'll also be running through my old work and updating some of the old paint jobs. Criticism is definitely welcome, I am by no means a great painter and I'm trying to get better so have at it!

My World Eaters started life about 5 years ago and have been in various stages of completed/painted ever since. I've easily got 4-5k points in World Eaters and Khorne daemons that I've been building up so far with the addition of a Chaos Knight army for the big games. I try and keep them vaguely competitive without selling out too much fluff-wise (no psychic phase for me, thank you very much!).

I'm a complete newby to forums so bear with me as I figure out posting images etc.

Kicking off, I've got a Smashlord conversion to post!

I recently got hold of a Deathbringer as I thought it would make a quick and easy "Chaos Lord with Thunderhammer" conversion. Turned out to be even easier than I thought, the new Sigmar kits fit nicely with the Chaos Space marine spares I've got and with a bit of Greenstuff it looks pretty good!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Turns out I'm pretty slowed when it comes to image uploading... at least the attached file works well... even if it's sideways!
I'll sort this out for the next post.

I'd suggest hosting your images on https://imgbb.com/ It will give you the html code to post, sadly on my screen all the pictures are sideways. One of the great things about the AoS Khorne models is they are great for a World Eaters player.

Cheers itsonlyme, I'll give it a whirl for the next round of progress pics and, if it works, then I'll go back through and sort those first posts out!
I tried to link in the pics from the Gallery on here... with no success.

I've had a few conversions out of the new AoS Khorne lads, I've used Bloodreavers as cultists with some success. I'll be finishing them off as part of this blog.

I realise I didn't give any idea of what the next jobs are! They are as follows:
- Converting a gifted Chaos lord on a juggernaut from an AoS juggernaut rider
- Having a play with contrast paints for my 30 strong Bloodletter bomb
- Finishing a Bloodthirster's paint job
- Assembly and painting of Karanak

... should be enough to be going on with!

Karanak and my contrast paint arrived on Saturday but other issues have prevented me from getting much done with them (dead car battery ).
I managed to get Karanak made though and have made a few more of the warhounds I'll be using as "counts as" Flesh hounds. I won't post pics of them until I've at least got them undercoated!

In the meantime, here's a sneak peek at some of my favourite models that are due a paintjob upgrade!
Spoiler:

My levi dread conversion, I magnetised his butcher cannon but not the grav flux bombard... for reasons that made sense to me at the time!

My take on Kharn the Betrayer, leaping through the flames to claim some skulls for the Throne!
All manner of bits went into making him.

The modelling nest has since been purged so it's a bit more organised but here are the Titans I've got on the WIP list.

So, sorry for the lack of updates but it's been a busy couple of weeks one way or another!

There is progress!!

I had 4 bloodletters and the unit champion that I had undercoated for part of a killteam so I started on them. I gave them an angled coat with white using my airbrush, the idea being the contrast would be much brighter at the top of the model, leaving the lower limbs darker.

The white spray did highlight a load of gaps that I hadn't filled on the head and sides of 3 of them so I filled them with putty and will respray when I do the rest.

I started with the contrast on the champ and regular bloodletter as they weren't as bad as the others!

Here you'll be able to see some of the contrast bleeding onto the horns of the champ, its my first time using contrast and, while I was really impressed with the finished article, it does take longer to dry!

I managed to pretty much finish the champ, he's due a few more highlights and his base doing but all in all that's the fastest I've painted a mini in a very long time!

I set aside and hour and filled all the missed gaps on the other 25 bloodletters... fun stuff but had to be done. I carried on the good work and gt them base coated as well

The juggerlord is back with a brand new look:

I managed to break off his helmet details during the arm swap but I don't reckon he looks bad without them. I got that mini base coated as well, ready to get cracking with that.

I also decided to give my berserkers some love, I dug out my Berserker Champion and repaired his broken arm with a chainsword conversion,

He's been added to the painting pile and so far I have got him and the other minis pictured below basecoated ready for this week.

I put the random imperial pilot in so I can have a break from painting all that red

That's all for now, I plan to get the bloodletters contrast painted by the end of the week at least and some more work done on my character models.
Cheers for reading,
Crispinius

Hi all,

Another randomly busy week, even with lockdown! I have made progress though and have managed to keep up to the goals I set myself.

I managed to smash out the Berserker Champion and finish and base the Bloodletter champion by last Tuesday (the Berserker was too good not to paint in one go, I love the model).

A shot of the World Eaters emblem:

On Saturday I managed to get a free hour so dedicated myself to getting as much done on the Bloodlettters as I could... and am pleased with the results!

28 Bloodletters airbrushed and contrast painted in record time (at least for me!). I've since started on the additional colours but this time I'm batch painting so I don't make mistakes or miss details. When I looked back over the models after the contrast, I found i'd missed patches here and there and didn't want to replicate that with all the rest of the colours

The plan is to work through the batches now and hopefully have them done by the end of the week, time permitting. I've also bought a Blood Throne to give me the option of a Supreme Command detachment... and an awesome model/melee blender to help drive the Bloodletters forward!

I realise I started all this off as a World Eaters blog and then followed that up with a job lot of Daemons! I'll remedy that once the Bloodletters are finished, There's a fair number of angry lads to paint so more World Eaters will be making the blog!
Thanks for reading,
Crispinius

And as an explanation for why I've had a bit less time than usual, a pic of my other hobby!

The Desolate North

Hi all,

I've had an operation (nowt serious, don't worry) which means I have a lot more time on my hands! The upside of that means that I have spent the last two days modelling!

I've received more reinforcements in the form of a Blood Throne and an army bundle from a buy/swap page so my time has been spent building and sorting for the most part!

I've managed to get the first batch of bloodletters done:

The blood throne is built but I've left the bloodletters and Herald loose for the time being to make painting a lot easier. The blood throne has to be the worst kit I've ever got my hands on but at least the finished product looks cool!

I have to admit, my will is weak, I sacked off batch painting bloodletters to paint one of the new obliterators from the army I bought!

The base isn't my own work (the model came with the blood already done) but I like it and reckon I can replicate it for more models.
The obliterator just needs the base finishing and some edge highlights and he's done. I might try and get a couple of transfers on there too.

That's it for now but progress should come fast as a result of all my spare time!
Cheers for reading,
Crispinius

I promised progress and here we go: obliterator done!

And a size comparison... he's a big boy!

Don't know why the pic is blurry, if you click on it through to the gallery pic itself though its in focus!

I'm going to be a good lad and crack on with the bloodletter horde... I just needed a break from batch painting!

Oblit looks good, great base goop

Good luck with all those bloodletters, I've got a massive horde of my own to paint ... that I've moved on from yet again to paint other stuff

Cheers Boss!
I've found out that the wife has a glue gun so the goop is something I'll look to replicate across more of my minis.

The temptation to ignore the horde is too real! I've got a Titan looking at me accusingly that might get some paint time....

The warp forges have been busy...

I'd have got them all done in one go yesterday but burnt out after doing the swords

I have a job lot of undercoating to crack through for another batch of marines and daemons but I'll probably have a break and work on a titan or two!

Hopefully more progress tomorrow, cheers for reading,
Crispinius

The swords look great, but I can see why they might burn you out! The blood drips on the symbol of Khorne look fantastic too

Cheers gobert! Yeah, there's only so much dry-brushing orange and red that I can take in one session!

I'll put up another pic of the standard in my next progress post, I was really happy with how it turned out. It was a Khorne red base, Mephiston red highlights and then Blood for The Blood God on top of that (the best technical paint )

The Desolate North

Hi all,

Progress has been slow unfortunately, my workplace are in full swing getting ready to reopen as the UK lurches out of lockdown!

I got sidetracked again...

My knights have sat forgotten for ages, even though they have seen game time! In a bid to not paint boodletters, I carried on working on one of my Wardogs. The colour scheme is based on one from the codex, one Wardog in turquoise and one in bone. Managed to get some hours on the turquoise one.

Almost in a state for washes etc, just finishing the last of the base layers off. I don't think I have the right colour for edge-highlighting Kabalite Green but might try Warpstone Glow and see how that looks! If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears. Highlights are a bane of my existence anyway, my hands have had tremors since I was small so keeping still enough to highlight is a test of willpower!

I also got the base layers pretty much down on the Juggerlord:

Again, more red so progress is slow! I imagine once I've had my fill of Kabalite Green, red paint will seem like a welcome break

I'll hopefully have more progress soon,
Cheers for reading,
Crispinius

No real progress to report as I have been clearing the decks for the past few weeks in preparation for a new project!
I've never sent so many Ebay parcels...

With 9th Ed round the corner and the arrival of a nice big close-combat themed Primaris box set, I fancied a change... mainly in paint schemes.
I've long loved the Black Templars, their fluff, colour scheme and close combat based philosophies .
I was lucky enough to get an Indomitus box (which I'll be picking up on Saturday, Emperor willing) and have been stocking up with Ebay and local game shop deals.
As of Saturday, I'll have: A hat-full of characters, Blade Guard (super Templar-style models, love them), Outriders, 10 x Assault Intercessors, 3 x Aggressors, 30 Intercessors and a Redemptor Dread.

I made a start on the intercessors I've managed to buy already (I got a Space Wolves starter box and sold off the upgrade sprues and leader model!).

The chain around the weapons was "fun" to attach but it's something I'll be replicating across the army. I'll also be trying my hand at sculpting tabards as my lunch breaks at work have been filled with sculpting tutorials! There're plenty of bits on the way for conversions and I'll be trying to up my game as far as basing goes.
Painting will have to wait for the time being, I'm due a big order of paints (who knew painting black properly would require so many...) as I want to challenge myself in terms of painting too.

I'll try and find out how to rename the blog so I can use it as a Templars/Khorne blog. If not, might start a new one for Templars.
Cheers for reading,
Crispinius
