Hello to everybody.

I´m going to start this new edition playing some armies, and the GSC are one of them. I´ve read that they finish in a bad position but I want to give them a try.

I didn´t have the opportuny to make a list yet: just brainstorming. Patriarchs, Magus... achiles?

I want to play a very msu style list, so if you want, we can start with the brainstorming together and preparing a list!! Next week I want to try so...

I will post all the battle reports here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/790226.page#10873608

All the GSC lists I have tried so far have been mech style, because tbh I think that's whats actually good in this edition. I get the concept of using naked aco squads to score objectives and I feel like you could probably make that happen by taking a bunch of min squads in either a TH or a CTFAE detachment and having a ton of dudes who all deep strike in and charge, and if they succeed yay, if they fail they score Linebreaker or something.

But to be honest, I don't WANT to play a playstyle where I'm basically getting slaughtered every game and winning by scoring tons of secondaries. It doesn't sound fun.

I'm really big on Bladed Cog 2x Mining Laser or 2x Seismic Cannon neophyte squads in Goliaths with an Alphus, that's a troop choice that's flexible, effective, and a royal PITA to get off an objective in a single turn. I back them up with min double-saw aco squads in rockgrinders, or with something I haven't tried out yet but i'm excited to which is 20x Jormungandr genestealers with Improved resistance adaptation and a Catalyst Broodlord.

If I'm going for a heavy deep strike, I'm going to do a full deep strike bomb with A Perfect Ambush, Primus, and either the Icon of Cult Ascendant or a Magus with Might from Beyond. 20 Acolytes with 4x saws (maybe 3x saws 1x cutter just to have a cutter in there for insurance against monsters and characters). If I can't remove priority blast weapons with my absolute wall of BS3+ mining lasers turn 1 or with the deep strikers themselves turn 2 then they can have a turn of max shots against me, it's a risk I'm willing to take.

It's going to be much tighter on CPs than any list I've tried running so far, because it has both the genestealer detachment which costs 3cp and the deep strike bomb which costs minimum of 4cp for perfect ambush, so I basically start with 5+1 per turn for discretionary stuff. I'm hoping I can get away with ditching the Clamavus because he's been super unnecessary the last few games, 65pts to just give a single squad a +1 to charge seems excessive.

Honestly, beyond those two big expenditures I'm not that CP hungry. If I get a good charge with the bomb I'll use 1cp to give them exploding 6s, if there's an objective I need the genestealers to get on I might use their double move stratagem. I'd definitely use 1cp on a reroll for the charge turn 2. But honestly, I brought in the genestealer detachment because the first few test games I ran one single detachment and just didn't feel like I was desperate for command points, I was using them on stuff like min bike squads and single HMLs for +1 to wound.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I like the concept but you will be have squishy vehicules with squishy squads of infantry (except the stealers). Does your list really need the 4 goliath vehicules ? or is your list a "fun list" before anything else ?

I honestly don't think Goliath trucks are all that squishy for their points. 85pts for 10w t6 4+ 6++ is solidly tough against most opposing weaponry for a transport that also mounts decent guns and also allows its passengers to shoot. Sure, it goes down slightly faster than for example a Razorback vs autocannons, but if you compare how many points its giving up each time you shoot an autocannon at it, a twin AC razorback gives up 8.1 points per BS3+ autocannon shot at it, and a Goliath gives up 8.25.

I've played vehicle-heavy GSC into primaris and they didn't feel especially squishy. it typically took my opponent a solid chunk of his army to take out a goliath, then 1-2 squads of primaris guys depending on what they were to clear out the squad after they popped out and got into cover. New morale is also extremely helpful for that, even leaving me with 3 guys means you're going to probably be dealing with at least one mining laser on your turn.

Good post and good ideas. I love the idea of 3 trucks with full of mining laser. I was afraidab about blast weapons, but I think they will dessapear if big squads are not in meta. But why not achilles or lemmans? And also, I miss the aberrants, but they are too expensive today...

I only own one Achilles, so I only run one. My policy has generally been to try and run enough mining laser stuff to reliably take down one hard target turn 1 with the alphus buff.

No russ because I think it's solidly overpriced for GSC. Maybe in Guard where you can give it Catachans and tank commanders its worth it, but not for us at least IMO.

I don't think blasts are a big worry if I'm being honest. If I ran into a list with like 3 wyverns in it I'd just spend cp to reserve the genestealers and bring them on turn 3 once I've tied up or destroyed the blast weapons. But like please, shoot my genestealers with your battlecannon and basilisk, oh no not my poor genestealers they just get a 5++ and 5+FNP and they're 17pts apiece...lol.
