I made a video! ^_^

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWhv4D86ibg

The Space Marines Primaris boxes discussed in this video are my go-to sets whenever I try to convince a friend to try out Warhammer 40K. They make for the cheapest, most beginner-friendly kill team as of (early) August 2020. This list is made up of units that are one of the hardier models in the game, ones that aren’t bogged down by additional gameplay mechanics that first-time Kill Team players might find distracting.

If you’ve any friends who want a no-frills introduction into the dynamic world of Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team, share this video! Tell them to try out this list. It won’t trump every list out there of course, but it should serve as a cheap but simple way to get their feet wet in the world of skirmishes in the 41st millennium!

AN IMPORTANT CAVEAT: The script for this Primaris faction focus video was written in the early days of August 2020. Since then, Games Workshop has pulled the plug on the 15-dollar Easy-To-Build Primaris Intercessors and Primaris Reivers boxed sets. Consequently, these cannot be purchased anymore from Games Workshop’s website. However, as there are still many of these boxes available online and in hobby shops, I’ve opted to still release this video. It is my hope that this cheap Kill Team list can entice more gamers to join our ever-expanding community.

Video chapters:
0:00 This intro
2:25 What you need for this cheap kill team list
4:20 Why this budget kill team roster is newbie-friendly
10:36 Reivers pros and cons
18:02 Adeptus Astartes Tactics
20:37 Generic Kill Team Tactics
21:17 The cons of this kill team
22:56 The kill team list outlined
25:41 The inconsistencies in Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team Annual 2019
27:30 Running the models discussed in this video as a Deathwatch Fortis kill team
30:26 The outro

I apologize in advance for the audio glitches that happen at the 2-minute 53-second, 14-minute 13-second, 13-minute 46-second, 16-minute 4-second, 20-minute 38-second, 26-minute 12-second, and 29-minute 46-second marks.

Just a note, if you can still find the 40K First Strike box you actually get two kill teams and at full retail it was only $40. Lots of places are blowing out the old sets for much less than that now.

Sorry it took quite a while to respond. These days, due to the pandemic, RL priorities have been piling up.

About your comment:

Haha! I'm glad it wasn't just me who noticed how awesome that set is! <3 I actually covered that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaYRwrdB2fE

In the video I explain why I chose that set to be my first GW purchase and what Kill Teams you can form from it. The Kill Team lists are on the comments section.

The Death Guard only come up to 72 points thought but the set does give you the blight launcher. Together with a box of Plague Marines I bought (I unboxed that too in my channel), I was able to form a Death Guard roster that had not one, but two blight launchers. Powerful stuff!

I'm currently making a Death Guard Kill Team faction focus video. Should be up in a week or two. ^_^

A good video as its still relevant with the new Recruit Edition set. Its £7.50 more expensive and the assault primaris are yet to receive rules, but Necron wise its a solid team of warriors and one could use the Warden as a leader-immortal.

Although Kill Team's future is uncertain at this time, GW did say in the 9th edition FAQ that models will appear in kill team going forwards. Unless they are releasing a new edition of KT, I think they'll be covering that in an issue of WD before the year is out for inclusion in a 2020 annual.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

I can absolutely see them dropping a KT 2020 annual and then 1-3 months later releasing new KT if it even takes that long. They've got the new terrain sets to tie-in with and a new edition's changes to incorporate.

You can kind of feel it coming. With that in mind the Recruit set is a good deal, especially containing two Kill Team worthy commanders.

Thanks for the kind words SamusDrake! <3

Got held up by the dayjob. Sorry for the late reply.

About the topic: There's a new starter set coming methinks involving Necrons and Primaris Assault Intercessors. ^_^

Though I do think what we need right now are various balance passes, not new boxes.
