Hello fellow fans of the DakkaDakka!

I'm a player who has never played a table top game before. I got into the hobby through some friends and started collecting an ork army. So far, assembling and painting the models was really fun but now we plan to give our armies a go at the table top.

The problem is, I have no idea how to build a "good" army list from the models I got so far, thats why I wanted to ask you guys for suggestions.

I have the following models at my disposal:

1 Warboss with Big Choppa
1 Weirdboy

1 Painboy
5 Nobz (mostly equiped with Melee weapons)

22 Boyz, two with Big Shootas

1 Trukk

1 Deff Dread

1 Deff Kopta

Because it is our first try at the game, we agreed on 500 points per army. I will be up against Sisters of Battle (incl. Saint Celestine), Tau and a Thousand Sons army.

I would be more than happy to hear your suggestions on what combination of troups I should be running. Any help is very much appreciated!

Thanks to all of you!

Well, that doesn't look too bad.

At 500 points you have to use a patrol detachment, so you have to bring your boyz and at least one HQ.
My suggestion would be:

HQ
- Use your warboss, and give him the 'eadwompa relic for an extra point of AP. Also make him your warlord with the brutal but kunnin' trait and upgrade him into da biggest boss for 1 CP. This should give him a real fighting chance against St. Celestine and any other hard targets you might face. Don't spend more points than necessary on shooting units.
- Pick either the weird boy or the pain boy. Personally, I'd take the weird boy as its has more synergy with the other units. Upgrade it to warphead to get warpatch an maniacal seizures as your powers for the most flexibility
- Bring the dread. I have no idea how you built it, but optimal load-out would be one klaw and getting any combination of KMB or saws for the other three army, depending on your preference. Make sure to upgrade it with a kustom job of your liking for 1 CP. All three options are decent.
- For the lack of any other options, bring your nobz. Deffskulls get a rule on all their infantry that is commonly referred to "objective secured" that helps them to contest or capture objectives. Use this to your advantage have them clear out units from your opponent's objectives
- Spend all remaining points on boyz. Keep them close to your weirdboy and your warboss to protect them, make casting powers easier and benefit from buffs and auras.

If you need any further help on what to do during the game or how certain things work, feel free to ask about that in the ork tactics thread: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/790345.page

Hello Jidmah!

Thank you very much for your help ! I see that I still need to learn alot about this game. Based on your suggestion, I came up with the following army list:

HQ:

Warboss with Headwoppa's Killchoppa & Kustom shoota and Attack Squig, Brutal but Kunning, Da biggest boss, Warlord -> 78 points
Weirdboy with Maniacal seizure and Warpath, Warphead -> 75 points

Elites:

1 Boss Nob with Choppa & Power Klaw
1 Nob with Kombi skorcha
1 Nob with Choppa & Power Stabba
2 Nobs with Big Choppa
->135 points in total

Troops:

1 Boss Nob with Choppa & Slugga
1 Ork Boy with Big Shoota
12 Ork Boys with Choppa & Slugga
-> 112 point in total

Heavy Support:

1 Deff Dread with Dread Klaw, Dread Saw and 2 KMBs, Sparkly Bitz Kustom Job
-> 100 points

Adds up to a point total of exactly 500 points

Again I really appreciate your help!

Just three questions: Could I cut the Nobz for more Boyz / or include a Painboy? Why did you select these powers for the Weirdboy and not something like da Krunch / da Jump?

And what would be your suggestion for future purchases to enlarge my little ork horde?

Well, you could, but in the end the game is won by holding objectives and a second unit will allow you to be in two places at once, while a painboy would be forced to run with the boyz. When increasing your army, I would not hold onto them, but keep in mind that a pain boy is rarely worth his points unless you manage to keep two or more units of boyz near him.

Why did you select these powers for the Weirdboy and not something like da Krunch / da Jump?

In my experience when playing on small boards, there are few good places to actually put down a unit with da jump. In addition, if you don't have a lot of targets to jump, as you can't jump away your character's body guards. Da Krunch might sound like an awesome power, but it fails to impress when used regularly, especially when you consider that your weird boyz can always cast smite. Feel free to give it a try yourself though, it's not completely horrible and you won't learn without getting a bloody nose here and there.
On the other hand, warpath works well on any of your units, including the boss and the dread, while seizures can neuter armies which try to get leverage out of expensive units which people struggle to beat at low point costs.

And what would be your suggestion for future purchases to enlarge my little ork horde?

Depends. Orks work well as mechanized force OR as infantry horde. The two styles never have and probably never will mix well, so you would have to decide which way you want to go first.
For mechanized orks you would dip into a Mad Max style army with lots of buggies and potentially some stompy robots, the horde force would lean towards boyz, Ghazghkull Thrakka (currently hard to buy).
If you are undecided, a few units like MANz, mek guns or burna bommers currently do well in any kind of army.

Hello again dear friends of the DakkaDakka,

I'm updating this list again as I am going into my second battle with my Deathskull orks. My friends and I are planning another game day, this time with 750 points on the table top. So once again I am asking for your support

I would like to keep the 500 points army as is and upgrade it with a mek gun equipped with a smasha gun and I also ordered a box of meganobz which should be arriving tomorrow. What kind of load-out would be best for the Meganobz in your opinion?

I still have the trukk, more boyz and a deff kopta to add to the list. It would be great if you could give me your opinions on how to make my 500 points into a fun-to-play and fun-to-play against 750 points list As last time, I will be up against sororitas, T'au and thousand sons.

Thanks to all of you guys for taking the time to give my your opinions on the matter

Mega Nobz..Boss Nob with two kill saws Meganob two kill saws meganob two kill saws
..............................................
You should have parts leftover to convert a regular nob to a Big mek with kff or possibly a big mek in maga armor with kff ..if you add in a tad of plasticard

Build the Mek gun and use parts leftover from your trukk to make a second mek gun tractor (and a bit o plasticard) ( i am not a fan of the kmb or the bubble chuckka but the KMB can alwas be mounted on your deff dread if you like)

Thank you very much for your answer

So you would suggest a full melee load-out for the Meganobz, then I guess I should include my Trukk in the list to move them up the board quickly or should I change one of the powers of the Weirdboy to Da Jump? What would make more sense?

I'm not sure how many parts will be left after I build everything together, but it sounds like an very interesting suggestion so I will for sure try to throw something together from the spare parts. Just out of curiosity: What is plasticard? I'm sorry but I never heard from it (I'm really a noob when it comes to model building )

Thanks again, every input is more than welcome!

I will put a list together this weekend and will upload it as soon as possible

Okay plasticard is well plastic card stock approximatley 1mm to 1.5 mm thick made from hi density polystyrene so that it glues stright to most minis with glue (if you look at some conversion posts you will see the little white and off white pieces some glued on to make it work and look good)
And yeah Full melee load out as a MANZ missle is pretty good ..

I would trimm some things for more boyz - one of the best stratagems we have is "Endless Green Tide", the more boyz you have, the more likely you are able to use it and the more powerful it will be.
Stuff to trimm:
- Skorcha and stabba on nobz
- Big shoota on boyz
- wrekkin ball
All of these are nice to have upgrade you can buy when you have points to spare, but are unlikely to have an actual impact on your game.

Hello Jidmah,

Many thanks for your suggestions. I made the changes to my army list, even though I would have loved to have a wrecking ball on my trukk to crush into enemy lines singing "I came in with my wrecking ball, all I wanted was to break your skull"

With all the adaptions you suggested, the list will change in the following way:

Troops:

1 Boss Nob with Choppa and Kustom shoota
18 Boyz with Choppa and Shoota
-> 155 pts

The resulting points now add up to 748/750

I just thought about taking the trukk of the list and replacing him with a Painboy... What do you think about this idea?

And another question I still have is how to get my Meganobz into close combat as quickly as possible: Trukk, use one CP to put them in the Tellyporta or (my least favorite) using da Jump with my weirdboy.

What do you think would be the best way to get them into the enemy lines to smash some heads?

Looking forward to your answer!

The trukk, probably. At low point levels you are better off with more units on the board, and the trukk can hold objectives or block movement.

A painboy is rarely worth the trouble, especially not when you have this little models benefiting from his aura.

Hello again good people of the DakkaDakka forum!

Its been a while since my last update of my army list, but after many fun and victorious battles with my 750 points ork list, it is now time for the next level: I want to extend my army to 1000 points

The plan is to add some new units to my already existing 750 points list, which I wrote down for you in the following paragraph:

Clan Kultur: Deathskulls
Detachment: Patrol

HQ (158 points, -2 CP):

1 x Warboss (Warlord, Brutal but Kunnin, Da Biggest Boss, equiped with Attack Squig, Da Killa Klaw and a Kustom Shoota) -> 83 points, -1 CP
1 x Weirdboy (Warphead, Psychic Powers: Warpath, Da Jump) -> 75 points, -1 CP

Troops (157 points):

1 x Boss Nob with Big Choppa and Slugga -> 13 points
18 x Ork Boyz with Choppa and Slugga ->144 points

Elites (230 points):

1 x Boss Meganob with two Killsaws -> 40 points
2 x Meganobz with two Killsaws -> 80 points

1 x Boss Nob with Big Choppa and Slugga -> 22 points
4 x Nob with Big Choppa and Slugga -> 88 points

Heavy Support (140 Points, -1 CP):

1 x Deff Dread with one Dread Klaw, one Dread Saw, two KMBs, Kustom Job: Sparkly Bitz -> 100 points

1x Mek Gun with Smasha Gun -> 40 points

Dedicated Transport (65 points):

1 x Trukk -> 65 points

This all adds up to exactly 750 Points of fun

As already mentioned, I want to expand the list to 1000 points and I have the following units still left in my collection:

HQ: Ghazghkull, Weirdboy, Big Mekk with KFF

Troops: Another 21 Boyz

Elites: 2 Meganobz, 2 Painboyz

Heavy Support: Another Deff Dread, 4 Lootas and 1 Spanner

Fast Attack: One Megatrakk Scrapjet and one Shokkjump Dragsta (not assembled yet unfortunately)

My idea was to include the Megatrakk Scrapjet and two additional Meganobz in my 1000 points list, these two additions would cost 110 + 80 = 190 points. There would still be 60 points left which I could fill up with 7 more Boyz for a total of 996 Points.

But I would not post this here if I was not curious about your opinions Any ideas/input would be very much appreciated as this will be my first 1000 points ork list ever. If you have any feedback or criticism, please do not hesitate to respond to this post!

Thank you guys so much, I already learnt so much from your experience!
