Ok, we have 40k, and 30k as major settings with lots of novels and such.

How about the reign of blood, which is smack in the middle of them and a rather major kerfuffle in the imperium?

I was looking for books set in it, and wondering if it had been used as a setting for campaigns. I think it would mostly use units from 40k, no new units needed, no primaris obviously. No nids or necrons either.

A novel about a daughter of the emperor as a child seeing good ol' goge come to san leor, their deception by him, the forming of the 'brides of the emperor' the wars of the age of apostasy, maybe ending with her at the imperial palace and accepting the surrender and the establishment of the AS could be a good one. Anyone do it yet?

"But the universe is a big place, and whatever happens, you will not be missed..."

It would be good, I think. It's unfortunate that we already know how it ends.

Would be interesting to see. Would probs be a pretty short run but more insight into the Ages of the Imperium would be neeto.

Arguably there was a lot more meat to it than the horus heresy - it covers most of Vandires lifetime and all the events set in motion by him across that time.
The build up in M35 is also fairly substantive with Nova Terra, the Moirae Schism(which continues throughout M35-36), and the Cataclysm of Souls all setting the scene.

While "The Beast Arises" was running, there was a rumour that if it did well they'd do more "historical" stuff - but nothing has come after if yet.

The thing with HH was that there was nothing there, the writers essentially had a blank slate with only two points of reference, Horus turning traitor and the Siege of Terra. They could make up characters, draw lines to things we knew from 40k and explore the mythical Primarchs and things like how the Adepta came to be.
They could deffo explore a lot of things for the Age of Apostasy but IMO the problem is that there is so much we already know about it. The War of the Beast and HH were events that happened but had little to no story which meant writers could do a lot with little restriction. I see a lot of people say "just leave things as mysteries" with regard to things like the Clone Wars from Star Wars and the HH from 40k but there's no denying both of these events were important to their universes and expanding on them gave people more ways to play/tell stories/enjoy a setting. I think with the Dawn of Fire and most new books being set in the Era Indomitus we'll be hard-pressed for "historical" 40k any time soon.

I would love to see the Age of Apostasy as a setting. I'm likely to build character models from the era as a project in the future- I want models for all of the Matriarchs and Vandire himself.

I've worked Bucharis and the Plague of Unbelief into my Commandery's fluff- that's the tag end of the Age of Apostasy; I think Vandire was already dead by the time the influence of Bucharis peaked. But because he's involved with my Commandery, I need him too.

The youth of the Daughters of the Emperor would be an interesting thing; the Daughters are always described as being excellent warriors, but Vandire fooled them with a conversion field, so their prowess would be subject to technological limits... Until they were adopted by Vandire, at which point, they'd be learning warfare all over again, using the new tools.

There's also some potential in the Sainthood stories, as many of the Matriarchs were sainted in their lifetimes- though this is after the Age of Apostasy and well into the Thorian Reformation.
