Hey guys. I can't decide whether or not to paint my scions the same colour as my imperial guard (Military green/Khaki overalls) or if I should do them something completely different? Thinking either an off whitish colour or dark grey.

What do you think?

I would go for a different one or at least a more "special" version of the usual

There are several "official" Scions color schemes for the various named regiments.
Maybe go with one of those?

Scions have their own regiments, and the lore usually have them drop in for a specific mission then extract out; I would go with a different scheme, but maybe similar or complimentary colors to keep your army uniformed.

Edit: another way to uniform different regiments is by having the same battle zone badges(on shoulder/helm/knee pad etc.)

Maybe one of those colors to tie them into the army, and then a different contrasting color to make them stand out.

Like Tan and Blue, or green and yellow.

Pick one color to match, armor or cloth. Then use a complimentary color to it to paint the other.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

You've got a pretty normal/real world style color scheme, so maybe take one from the books and make a tan uniform (cloth), green armor (helmet/breastplate/etc.), and red berets for those with them. Paint the vehicles the same as you normally do if you want, it looks good. You really don't need to get fancy and stormtroopers used to be part of the normal IG. Even on GWs website they are considered a sub faction within the Astra Militarum, so rather than a separate entity just along to help a bit, go ahead and say yours are the "special forces" of your army with a similar color scheme.

Silly question, but are you planning on running them with your Guard regularly or as their own thing more? By which I mean, if the Scions are going to be small allied force you plug into different armies or run on their own, paint it up differently, but if you are predominantly going to run them with your guard, keep it similar. The Stormtroopers I have are painted up the same as my Guard, but to a higher quality - a few extra colors to pop out, or bronze/silver plating to make their weapons stand out more / look slightly higher quality, etc. I also use different colors for lenses/lights (most of my Guard infantry have Scion helmets on) - a bright blue for regulars and red with a bronze lens for the Stormtroopers. Basically they are uniform with everyone else but stand out a bit more (though I'll admit part of it is because I'm much better at painting now than I was 5 years ago when I started my Guard).

That said, if you really want to play with color schemes, this might be a good opportunity too.

I would generally do them as their own stand-alone force. For the scheme you posted earlier, I think the standard cyan/blue would work but with the beret in the colours of your standard regiment, you then have a tie-in to your regular Guard forces.

I do them as their own thing mostly. Though I have some I made way back that are a near color of my army. When they became more clearly their own thing I painted up my other, much larger group of scions as the jackals.

I'd say both ideas are fine as the models should look different than the core forces but stand out is easier to pick out who is who. Depends on what you want out of them.
