Ok i know a little about the kroot and had a few jsut curious questions.

Can kroot use ork teknolgy? Their background, unless it was retconned, was that the orks landed on Pecht and were eaten by the kroot who were basically animals at that point. A couple decades late the technological knowledge and abilities in their engineered DNA (Orky know-wots) surfaced and they understood the remains of ork technology and eventually built starships leading to their encounter with the tau. I wondered if they could use ork weapons and vehicles.

I seem to recall something really bad happens if kroot eat tyranids. What was that? (I remember them eating chaos, slaanesh, followers and instantly getting warped and perverted. I think they all turned weird colors and starting singing "Let's do the time warp again!" )

If kroot eat eldar do they get more intelligent and psychic?

Has a kroot ever eaten a marine progenoid? I mean holy gak what could happen there?

Ork technology is powered by their collective warp consciousness so if the kroot “absorbed” the ability to genera waaaaaaaagghhh psychic energy then maybe but even then I think there’s a bit more to it with blind faith and genetic engineering.

As far as I'm aware, the answer to this is still, "Yes." In my head, the kroot had very minimal space travel capability when they first encountered the orks. Their initial conflicts with the orks functionally upped their tech level a bit (at least as far as space travel), but the escalating conflict caused more orks to start overwhelming them, which is when the Tau came across them.

Also, I think most species can actually use ork tech, at least stuff like guns and vehicles, as long as they don't collapse the field by thinking about/inspecting their inner workings too thoroughly. There's a story where Ragnar Blackmane gets into a trukk race while disguised as an ork boy.

I think the effects of tyranid flesh are left vague, but kroot are quoted as saying something like, "It tastes funny." On a related note, drukhari that get their bodies augmented using tyranid DNA become obsessed with journeying to a specific world for mysterious reasons.

There's a kroot who eats some chaos meat in a short story somewhere. One of the tau collections. IIRC, he was exiled by the other kroot as a way of spreading corruption, recruited by an inquisitor(?), and basically became an edgy assassin type. I don't recall the specific effects it had on him; I think it just made him slightly crazy or something.

If kroot eat eldar do they get more intelligent and psychic?

Are eldar canonically actually more intelligent than most playable species? Better educated, sure, but I don't recall a ton of evidence that they're more intelligent. They definitely think of themselves as more intelligent, but that can be chalked up to arrogance. As for psychic ability, I'd think so, yeah. Old fluff said zoanthropes were the result of 'nids absorbing eldar DNA, and their innate psychic ability is one of the defining features of their physiology. If they ever introduce kroot psykers, I'd think this would be a natural way to explain it.

Has a kroot ever eaten a marine progenoid? I mean holy gak what could happen there?

I mean, you'd think they must have at some point, right? I know space marines are rare, but kroot kind of aren't. The effects this would have are fun to speculate on, but I'm not aware of any canon descriptions of the effects. A few off-the-cuff possibilities:
* Bigger, stronger kroot. (Boring.)
* Geneseed might actually be lethal to consume. When used on its intended target (humans), there's a good chance that the effects of geneseed kill the host. On an utterly inhuman alien, the compatibility might be dramatically reduced. (Plus or minus some chance of survival for being a species designed to absorb genetic traits.)
* Eating geneseed might be a different matter than eating marine flesh in general. The latter might give them access to some of the various implants (spitting acid, lharamen cells, etc.). The former might specifically give them traits reminiscent of the geneseed's primarch, especially the mutations. Angel kroot, wolf kroot, psychic kroot, etc.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

The thing about Space Marine progenoids (or whatever you call the implanted glands) is that they're not really special abilities unless you're a human. I mean, how many different acid spitting creatures could an aspiring gene-shaper find if they wanted one?

And the usefulness of those implants may also be limited by the fact that they're designed to exist in a human body.

Disclaimer: Yeah, I know. Space Opera genetics doesn't have to care about plausibility. But I'd think that an engineered system like that would be considered fragile or finicky to work with by "natural" gene-shapers like the Kroot.

OP really needs to finally discover the background forum. It's their third thread on page 1 of General that is a very clear background question.

Ork technology does also work because it actually works. If it was just a matter of belief, they wouldn't need power sources or ammunition, for example.

The Kroot Mercenary wargear list (Chapter Approved 2004, pg.34) gave them access to sluggas and shootas.

Yes, thank you for correcting that. The meme of Ork weapons working due to belief has gone way, waaaaay past farcical at this point. Orks tech most certainly works on its own and can be ridiculously advanced. Teleporting across the galaxy advanced, casually tearing holes in reality to "jump" vehicles or launch an attack, etc.

With that said, yes, there is no reason kroot couldn't use advanced ork weaponry, especially if they consumed Orks over the course of generations (to breed and hopefully inherit Ork gene-coded knowledge of the mechanics). The basic guns, buggies, etc. can be used by anyone strong enough to hold them and handle the recoil/lack of suspension systems.

Active armies, still collecting and painting First and greatest love - Orks, Orks, and more Orks largest pile of shame, so many tanks unassembled most complete and painted beautiful models, couldn't resist the swarm will consume all
Armies in disrepair: nothing new since 5th edition oh how I want to revive, but mostly old fantasy demons and some glorious Soul Grinders in need of love

Indeed. I'm blaming 4chan for that. If you read their article on Orks it's pretty much internet memes merely inspired by actual fluff.

Having recently read the first few Ciaphas Cain books again, they seem to mention that the Kroot can taste the fact its the naughty genestealer cultists up to their tricks. The shaper seems to say not to eat the tainted flesh.

Threads like this make me wish they expanded the xenos alliance elements of Tau more rather than the crappy mecha battlesuit team force go stuff.

I'd be interested in seeing a kroot army based on an ork list.

The "Orks think it works so it works" is more to do with things like red things being faster or the more esoteric weapons like Shokk Attack Guns working at least 50% of the time. Their basic firearms are easy enough to manufacture and even then they are still noted as being terrible weapons in the background. The Mechanicus sometimes toes this line of thought because they can't explain how inferior Xenos tech could work where theirs could not. The Orks are also thought to be the successor of the Krorks who were sentient weapons made by the Old Ones who could use any tech to make weapons.

It's also possible that ork technology relies at least partially on their unique psychic energy. It seems that Craftworld Eldar weapons work that way, with everything being made of wraithbone and sensitive to their psychic power, it wouldn't be that weird if the orks had a cruder version of that. That would explain why non-orks have a hard time using ork equipment.

This is just head-cannon of course, it could be that mek-boys build stuff that functions but just looks like it shouldn't. No one knows how their tech works, not even them, so it might just be too complex or too alien for other races to figure out.

As far as tyranid flesh is concerned, I don't exactly remember the source (I believe it is in a tau codex, not sure which one) but kroot see tyranids as abominations. Like must be destroyed, their flesh is a corruption type of reaction

-2500 pts
Mechanicus -1850 pts

An interesting way to expand the story of the kroot would be for them to seek out genetically superior beings to eat to enhance their race. Far seers, primarchs etc maybe a cult of crooks dedicated to capturing powerful demons and eating them to try and bring themselves into the favor of chaos

Are orks affected by the pariah nexus? Would it stop their gear from working? if it does then it's warp shenanigans. If not it's something else.

Huh. Cool. I never really cinsidered the fluff of the kroot.

I just kind of assumed tau rocked up and introduced to them to the greater good and said they wont kill them if they go eat some of their enemies and give them cool boomsticks.
