The rule for the void mine may have a typo or maybe I just don't understand it. It says "...select one point on the battlefield the bearer moved across. Roll one d6 for every unit within 6" of that point..."

So my question is who takes the damage? Say if I have 3 units within 6" of the point selected and my opponent rolls a 1, 2 and, 5 which of my units takes the d6 mortal wounds? Or, is it that you make a single die roll for each unit and apply the resulting damage, if any, to that specific unit? I think they mean the 2nd but I'm not sure.

Its very helpful when you cite the entire rule in question. What roll is needed ??

From page 113 of Codex Drukhari:

Once per battle, in your Movement phase, after the bearer makes a Normal Move or Advances, you can select one point on the battlefield the bearer moves across. Roll one D6 for each unit within 6" of that point,... on a 4+, that unit suffers D6 mortal wounds.

The complete rule seems pretty clear on the matter. The dice are allocated to the unit you're rolling for before they are rolled.

Yes, its pretty clear. You roll for each unit within 6" of the selected point, and on a 4+ that unit you just rolled for suffers D6 MW. And btw, it affects every unit on the battlefield, friendly and enemy.

I just wanted to be sure. In the older edition you rolled a die for each model in a single unit (max 10 dice), it allowed you to have a pretty good chance of crippling/killing larger units.

Yup, that was more akin to the old Template style of weapons functions. Now, if it says "unit" you only role the required number of dice/times for each unit (squad, etc.) If it says "model" then you roll for each specific model that falls at least partially (or wholly within if specified by the rule) the range. However, in both cases, unless the rule specifies otherwise, wounds failed are still allocated by the owner of the unit following normal rules.

So for instance, your opponents' Void Raven drops its Void Mine and any of the models from your 5-man squad is in the 6" range of the drop point. They would then roll one D6 for that entire squad (unit). If they roll a 4+, they then roll another D6 for MWs inflicted. After that, you as the player in control of the squad allocate the MWs as you desire, within the normal rules for allocating wounds in a multi-model unit.
