So I’m relatively new to the games (returning since 2ed) and am a little confused about CP and how many you start the game with..? I have my list of Cadians for a crusade but never know how many CP I start with or why the opponent seems to have almost twice the amount I do..? I thought from reading that CP is capped in this edition, I’m pretty confused...

CP (Command Points) are determined by the size of the game you're playing. Patrol, Incurssion, etc.
See the charts in main rulebook.
These fuel stratagems.
Both of you should be starting at the same #. After that there might be various traits, relics, etc that grant a few extra or allow rolls to gain an extra per turn.

CP (Crusade Points) are quite different and can vary greatly between opposing forces.
To determine this type of CP, count up all the relics, rewards, crusade based upgrades, warlord traits etc each unit has.
For ex; my unit has 3 upgrades gained by earning xp & bought with requisition points - so it has a Crusade Pint value of 3.
Repeat process for each unit.
Then tally it all up.
THEN compare each forces Crusade Point value. The force with less receives extra Command Points (to fuel strats). The idea here is that this helps balance things out. I've not found this to be the case however....

The more Crusade games you play? The higher your forces CP (Crusade Points) total will be. That's why you're seeing your opponent having so much more than you.

We’re doing a 6 rounds crusade tournament at our local game store so shouldn’t be to big a difference in
Crusade points.

Ok, 1st, what type of CP are you seeing your opponents having so much more of?

●Command Points - fuels strats.
Have a conversation with them & find out how they're doing that.

●Crusade Points - counts upgrades.
Have the same conversation.
But know that in Crusade your units gain xp based on how well they perform during play - killing units, achieving objectives, being marked for greatness, just being in the battle.... this eventually translates to upgrades
And winning sometimes awards upgrades.
And upgrades can be bought with Requistion.
So if your opponent's have been more successful than you've been there's going to be a descrency.

Btw; I don't see any xp/Crusade upgrades, or Crusade Points in your list.

Wishing I was back at the South Atlantic, closer to ice than the sun

Off the top of my head, a 1000pt game should have 6cp.

Did you remember the 3cp refund for your warlord?

Basically you start with a fixed number of cp depending on the game size, and your first detachment (often your only detachment) is free if you take one of the ones with troops.

This list should have 6 cp plus 1 per turn.

Yeah I was talking about command points, I thought I added mine up right and I was going with the 6 +1 per round.
Are there units that give you extra Command points.?

well, no, but actually yes.

if you mean start with more, no, not that i am aware of. you only ever start with 3 CP per 500 points. However, some units in some factions have abilities that grant you extra CPs when you opponent uses a strategem. The Guard have the "grand strategist" warlord trait (roll 5+ to retain every CP you spend), and the relic Kurov's Aquila (roll 5+ to gain a command point every time the opponent uses a strategem).

Also, if your warlord is in a patrol, battalion, or brigade detachment, that detachment costs 0CP. So, your battalion would start with 6CP.

Yes-some unique characters like Azrael or Creed grant extra CP, if they're your Warlord.

Moldyloks: You are using Battlescribe, so you need to set your game size to have the proper CP level printout with your list. In the configuration section of your list, change Battle Size to match that of the game you are playing. Your 50 PL list should be set to Incursion for 6 CP starting.

This, and also don't forget to set the game type to Crusade. I don't know what that does since I've never used it before, but it shouldn't hurt at least.

Creed gives you 2 CP. There's a Chaos army that gives 3 CP for just having 3 squads of chaos marines. I think it's Red Corsairs?

Crusade also gives additional command points relative to how many crusade points both sides have. It's called crusade blessings. It's described here:

When two Battle-forged Crusade armies battle each other, it is likely that one or the other will be more experienced. To determine this, after players have mustered their armies, both players should compare the combined Crusade points of all the units that are on their army rosters. If there is a difference, then the player whose army roster has the lower total number of Crusade points gains a number of bonus Command points to use in that battle equal to half the difference (rounding up). This represents high command funnelling additional resources to the underdog to help them combat a more elite foe.

For example: Joel and Ruby have finished mustering their armies. The total number of Crusade points of the units on Joel’s army roster is 7. The total number of Crusade points of the units in Ruby's army is 4. Ruby therefore gains 2 bonus Command points to spend on Stratagems in the forthcoming battle (because half the difference between 7 and 4, rounded up, is 2).
