Well, for my first post on Dakka I thought I'd post up a Guard army list I'm building.  I am doing this because it breaks several of the '10 guard commandments' you have in the tactics section so I'm interested to see how this list is viewed here.  So come on, flame away for taking stormtroopers, grenade launchers and missile launchers

1500 point guard army

Doctrines:

Iron discipline
Storm troopers
Close order drill
Drop troops

HQ

Junior officer with iron disicpline and bolt pistol. Guardsmen have laspistols and close combat weapons. Standard bearer.

ELITES

10 storm troopers with two plasma guns and infiltrate. Veteran sergeant with plasma pistol, bolter and scanner.

TROOPS

Infantry platoon

command squad with grenade launcher and missile launcher. Junior officer has iron discipline.

3 infantry squads, each with a missile launcher and grenade launcher.

FAST ATTACK

3 Hellhounds with rough terrain modifications.

HEAVY SUPPORT

Demolisher with three heavy bolters and rough terrain modifications <><>< img]HEAVY>

<>< img]HEAVY>EDIT:  I am thinking though of dropping 1 storm trooper squad, putting the other in a rhino (inqusitorial) and using the 90 points on something else such as another line squad.  <>< img]HEAVY>

Here's an alternative list. I like it because the storm troopers are absorbed into the tank attack, and anti-tank is no longer a problem with 9 lascannons.

Iron discipline
Grenadiers
Close order drill
Drop troops

HQ = 81 points.

Junior officer with iron disicpline. 1 lascannon. Standard bearer.

TROOPS = 889 points

Infantry platoon

command squad with lascannon. Junior officer has iron discipline.

3 infantry squads, each with a lascannon.

command squad with iron discipline and lascannon.

3 infantry squads each with a lascannon.

Storm troopers:

10 storm troopers with two plasma guns and Veteran sergeant with plasma pistol and bolter.
Mounted in Chimera with rough terrain modifications, multilaser, heavy bolter and heavy stubber

FAST ATTACK = 360 points

3 Hellhounds with rough terrain modifications.

HEAVY SUPPORT = 170 points

Demolisher with three heavy bolters and rough terrain modifications

Moore, Ok.

you know, the whole stormtrooper v. vet thing.

i don't like putting heavy weapons in command squads.

i don't suggest just 1 AV. 14 vehicle. i feel 0-2 personally.

and list 2 has no special/assault weapons. if the squad moves, you'll

only be able to shine flashlights.

My own reasoning on the storm troopers is that they're in there as a late game objective grabber. The carapace armour should make them better than hardened vets, since I'm not intending to run them up to a squad and unload everything they have. More that they'll be dropped off on the way to an objective and hold that spot, whilst the 5 tanks go about blasting stuff. They're also cool models.

I don't really want more than 1 AV14 vehicle cause 3 hellhounds is kindof a trademark feature for me, I've done it since second edition. And I just don't know where I'd get the points for the second demolisher with the hellhounds in. The demolisher is more to absorb fire than anything else...

Hmm....what about trading the stormies for another Demolisher? It moves just as fast, costs less and has better firepower. Alternatively, Basilisks have Chimera chassis and can actually do something while waiting out of LOS for an opportunity to dispute a table quarter. You could get two for the price of the Stormies.

I'd run with list two were I you. Suggested toys to buy with the points saved from substituting the Demolisher for the troopers include an HI for a PLATOON command squad, a flag, and some plasma guns for the infantry. Overall, the list looks okay, though those stormies must have some incredibly cool conversions to warrant their consideration.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.
