Is the Captain in gravis armour viable for a Primaris Blood Angels list?

Hi, I'm new to Warhammer (kind of), I painted a few chaos space marines many years ago... and have recently had the itch to paint up some of the amazing models I've seen.
I have painted around 1,000 points of Tau, and around 500 points of Orks.

I was never really interested in space marines, I love how people paint them, but the blue boys never really took my fancy, and from my perspective they seemed like the poster boy army, and that didn't appeal to me,
Until I saw them!... chunky red boys in gravis armour!!

so I got some Aggressors, Inceptors and some Assault Intercessors
I have recently obtained a captain in gravis armour (I think this is one of my favourite models I have ever seen)
Some of my friends play Warhammer, and I now have the opportunity to actually play for the first time (I am very excited)

I'm looking to get around 500 to 1000 points worth of blood angels (Primaris Only)
I have been told that the primaris captain in gravis armour is not a very good pick for blood angels
I don't mind losing and I am not looking to join or win any competitions, I just want to have fun painting and playing with some friends,
that being said I also don't want to get completely destroyed and it be a boring experience for the others to play with me
Is there a way I can still use this epic model in my army and it still be kind of good?

Any kind of advice is appreciated!
And thank you in advance if you took the time to read this

Ok. Don't sprinkle your post with colors that make me want to gouge my eyes out.

This is my first time posting, didn't realise it would look that obnoxious, apologies.

Sure, why not? You'll have to make sure he runs a lot to get him places, but other than that he'll be durable and there is plenty of traits and relics to beef him up.

You'll just have to think around his mobility to make it come together.

The problem specifically is you want some mobility if you're gonna carry a bunch of melee weapons. The dude is NOT fast, and there's cheaper characters you can do for counter charging.

Give him DC and then CP him up 12" with another DC unit, maybe? Or is that one unit only?

Can he be put inside a vehicle to move him up the board more efficiently?

First a quick question, you talking about the version with heavy bolt rifle and the sword or the one with the big fist and sword?
Either way the big weakness for a BA list is speed as gravis models move at 5" and you want them up the board into melee as fast as possible. The best way to mitigate this is a transport but as a gravis unit what can transport it is limited. a Repulsor and a Repulsor Executioner are the only options, neither of which are cheap.

I wish, the repulsor is 315 min, the executioner is 355 min.

the one im talking about is the fist dude with a sword and if i got to grab a repulsor to make him a better option for me i dont mind doing that, the points limit aint set in stone yet, and thanks to everyone for the replys!

Tanks and characters/melee units on foot isn't that good in BA. All the BA bonuses is about to get in melee fast and hit very hard. If you don't play around that almost any other marine chapter does it better. If you like the BA colours and the look of the tanks and slow melee units you could always play them with the rules from another chapter instead. Like White Scars to make the slow units a bit faster and still hit hard or IH to give your chunky boys and vehicles 6+ FNP.

Buy the models you like, paint them the colours you want and then play them with the rules that suits them the best.

Huh, thought those were 250 and 275. Meh.

He isn't looking to be really competitive though. A Repulsor with smoke will last a couple of turns and with a little CP can perform top tier and take out lots of stuff. Of course he may not want to spend $80 on a tank that takes up 1/3 of his army in a 1,000 point game.

The model might be fine in small games anyways provided he is prepared to CP advance rolls.

maybe it would be a good idea to get the combat patrol box?
That comes with a Repulsor some more CHUNKY BOYS!
I don't mind spending points to make him more effective
I also dont mind if I need to make a larger list up to 2,000 points (my friends have over that already and will make the same size list I do)

It doesn't come with a Repulsor, it comes with an Impulsor, the smaller version that can't trasport Gravis.

The SM line is so huge and the Primaris stuff all have such similar names that they all kind of blend together.

Blood Angels pull many of their best units and most unique units from the non-primaris space marine range. Their army rules and strategems are really built around maximizing the utility of those units as well. Just be aware that you will be sacrificing much of the Blood Angels experience by opting for primaris only. If it's the model aesthetic of the primaris range you prefer, there are modeling / conversion opportunities to "primarisize" the older range however.

As far as playing the Gravis Captain, given the primaris restriction you have placed, he absolutely can do a decent job for you. Since you will be playing without firstborn units, your list is going to be slower across the board then a traditional BA army and so he will still be able to support units like foot slogging Bladeguard Vets and Assault Intercessors without being left behind.

A BA list with a backbone of Bladeguard Veterans, Plasma Inceptors, Eradicators, and a Redemptor Dreadnought doesn't necessarily feel or play like traditional BA army but is still very viable for a game between friends.

He's a solid beat stick and works well with BA. You have a few options for him with relics and WL traits. A turn or maybe 2 advancing and he's usually where he needs to be.

A primaris army is the way to go IMHO as the 1stborn unit's generally lack punch outside VV.
The only 1st born you'll ever really need is a librarian dreadnought, Sanguinary guard and Sanguinary high preist and I'd forget the rest or make your own primaris proxies. Most folks seem fine with that.

Sure. He's roughly equivalent to a Terminator Captain - and they've had some interesting builds/themes over the years. He's probably my second choice in "customizable" (i.e. not a special character) Primaris land. I like the Indomitus Relic Shield one the best, but Power Fist + Power Sword isn't something to sneeze at either. ASSUMING they finish filling out the Primaris line with archetypal models there will eventually be a Smash Captain wearing a jump pack, and he's going to be first choice for BA.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

Biker and jump pack HQ are used by all marines, and BA being a melee buffs army like to take those very much.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.
