I'm reading this and as of now Alpharius has become my favorite character in 40k. I'm about 1/3 thru.

Glad to hear you’re enjoying it. Does this book expand on Alpharius’ reasoning during the events of Legion? Seemed a bit rushed on that book.

Faithful... Enlightened... Ambitious... Brethren... WE NEED A NEW DRIVER! THIS ONE IS DEAD!

Haven't got to that bit yet, just got to where the XX legion was first revealed to exist to the galaxy, they went to help the dark angels in their first appearance as an open legion.

Alpharius' observations about his brothers are pretty interesting. I'm looking forward to him meeting guilleman.

If you mean the events from Legion, not really. Although it does give you some insight into Alpharius's personality which might in turn tell you what sort of things might motivate him to make the choices he did. But then again, one of the first lines of the book assures you that the entire story is a lie.

It's been a while since I read it, but I think you may have misunderstood.

The 'lie' is that it's Alpharius speaking at that point.
Spoiler:
Because it's actually Omegon, as becomes clear in the epilogue. The prologue and epilogue are from Omegon's PoV. The rest of the book is from Alpharius' PoV.
I don't recall any statement that the story itself is a lie, just that "I am Alpharius" bit.

It's definitely the best Primarch book of the ones I've read so far. I think Mike Brooks might actually be my favourite BL author now, even above ADB, Chris Wraight and Peter Fehervari.

"[Games Workshop] are ripping everyone off at every opportunity, it appears. This is an example of Pratchett's Law where people are taking everything out of the big pot and apparently putting absolutely nothing back in. Stew thieves. Nothing worse in this neck of the woods." - Michael Moorcock

"I find it really hard because I still love the worlds GW's created - they've been a big part of my life - but I can't stand how they operate as a business. I've seen so many friends get screwed over, lose jobs without notice, get burnt out." - James M. Hewitt

I really enjoyed that book and I love that the first two lines of the book are:

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."

/headexsplode

My only problem with the book is how some of the info presented contradicts "known" lore on the Alpha Legion; though I guess there really isn't any known lore....

"The only problem with your genepool is that there wasn't a lifeguard on duty to prevent you from swimming."

"You either die a Morty, or you live long enough to see yourself become a Rick."

I like how the book head faked readers when Alpharius
Spoiler:
looked like he was about to kill the two humans that witnessed him and the wording suggested he had done so, only to reveal later that he had made them servants of the Legion instead
