Been Around the Block





Haven't played 40k in years, and only really just coming back.

I've no guard book as i'm waiting on the new one. At the moment, just playing around with the models I have and expect to get in the coming months.

SO.... I've no idea if this is a good list or not! or if it's even really playable! my aim is to just get on the table and have some fun.

In my collection I have:

Start collecting Astra Militarum box

3 sentinals

which I've put into the list below... would love some thoughts.

Of course in time I'll build on this, I really like the valkaries but in a 1000pt trial list it was hard to squeeze them in...

Few things. Firstly the vanquisher cannon is one of the worst weapons ever right now, swap it for a demolisher or punisher with up gunned for the ap. At 1k points I'd also drop the sponsors, not worth the points.
Next you have no officers to order your troops (tank commanders can't order troops, only tanks) so drop the vox...and probably the flamer too. Infantry squads are best without any upgrades.
The bullgryn, what is their loadout? I'd recommend mauls and a mix of shields.
The commisar...eh, they aren't great but I guess it could work, don't waste points on him though, drop the upgrades, especially the pistol.
The sentinels, flamers aren't that great, go for plasma, autocannons or missile launchers.
Your missing a weapon choice for your heavy weapon team. They would be better with all mortars though otherwise they need line of sight to fire and if you can shoot the enemy they can delete 6 T3 wounds with a 5+ save VERY easily.
I like the demolisher but again maybe drop the sponsons at this point level.

The big thing with guard is that you have to min/max your units to make them effective. You have a good selection of units but you have to remember that most stuff we have dies to a stiff breeze so you have to be careful what units you spend points on

the third HW was a mortar as I'd intended to build them up as one of each - but i'll make that 3 of each as something to aim for.

I'm mostly a collector, I'm not one for having lots of armies before they killed off fantasy I had about 15,000 of empire lol. But sold it years ago. I'm intending to do the same with my guard really, i.e. build a large force.

I don't want to magnetise the life out of everything so the talk at the moment has been built as a normal LRBT i.e. not a tank commander and i've glued in the base so I can take it as a Battle cannon or a vanquisher cannon.... I assume I've messed up there and should've done something different with the turret or will a LRBT with Battle cannon still be used down the line?

Sentinal advice is good, I'll build them up as one of each, gives me something to play with.

Demolisher isn't built as yet so can go either way on that happily. But was going to build that as the tank commader...

perhaps i've made the list unclear or just plain wrong.

Essentially I have the LRBT from the defence force waiting to be built.
And have already build one but limitations are it's not a tank commader and can only now take battle cannon or vanquisher. Sides will be magnetised so no issue there.

happy to ditch the commissar. No problem there.

load out on bullgryns is undecided - will adjust to your recommendation and see where the points sit.
