So, a while ago I picked up the terrain from the command edition starter set off eBay.

Trying to figure out what I want to do if with it is proving a bit of a struggle for me, so I was hoping someone here might have some good input.

I’ve got an airbrush, and would ideally like to do get some use out of that besides just basecoating.

I’m not too keen on the off-white studio scheme, but I haven’t managed to find any alternatives that interest me. I’d like to try something a bit more grimdark.

I’ve already tried out a lighter grey (mechanicus standard and then dawnstone), but it looked a bit boring?

I also tried out this tutorial by Painting Baron:

I thought the muted blue might look good (I used Incubi Darkness, The Fang and Russ Grey stippled) but it also looked a bit naff. Maybe I’m just not great at stippling, it did look a bit over the top.

I’m leaning towards applying this tutorial by Army Painter to it:

But I’m not sure it’d work very well, considering the amount of different surfaces and details on the kit, compared to a simple MDF/ foam ruin?

I know this is a bit of a vague post, any ideas are appreciated!

I would look up abandoned factories and abandoned places pictures for color scheme inspiration. cheers.
