I've painted an old citadel fella in full plate with white primer, followed with Runefang Steel (a very light, metallic silver), followed by Flesh Tearers Red Contrast. This gives the slightly shiny red a really nice metallic-y undercoat. It looks pretty good already!

But I'm kind of a speed painter, table-top quality kind of guy, and would love your advice: how would you highlight or edge line, or pretty this fellow up a little?

I think i will eventually add some wear and tear (strategic black scratches (Abaddon Black) with silver on top (maybe Runefang, maybe something more like Leadbelcher?))

I have a lot of the Citadel line.

How would you take this model to the next level?

Personally I would've highlighted the silver prior to using the contrast paint. As it stands any highlight on the red is going to look a little off as it won't have the metallic red effect you've gotten.

If you'd used traditional red (no metallic undercoat) then highlighting would be base colour + orange. The gloves base + yellow/ochre. The crest base + white and the boots brown + yellow/ochre. The haft of the axe looks fine as it is and the axe head seems good too.

Didn't occur to me to highlight up the silver underneath... Like a white and the Runefang?

I'll try that next time.

Best to mix Stormhost Silver in with Runefang Steel (or just use straight Stormhost Silver)
