Looks great - especially that second photo, it's got ark-of-the-covenant glow.

NMM is like any other technique. It looks kinda rough when you do it the first time. But the more you do it. the better you get at it.
This looks pretty solid, better than anything I've managed in NMM so far.

I don’t really like NMM but I really like what you’ve done here, it’s got a real old school 40K feel to it, I’m jealous

Not a bad go! My advice would be to get some hard edge highlights on the hard edges, for example on this one, the edges down the wing panels on the right hand side, edge highlights there will really sell the illusion of metal. I would've also put the reflecting portion in the middle of the downward flat surfaces rather than at the end. This would allow you to get the specular reflection right. The pure, bright specular reflection should be very thin, with the diffuse reflection around it slightly duller. I also think your dark areas need to be darker. At least a level or 2 darker. The transitions are good, but there could be more contrast.

Thank you all for the support its very encouraging, I was feeling disapointed but now i want to try again. I still have to do the aquila on the chest piece, I'll try my best to give it more contrast and better metallic highlights. Will post the results.

Looks really good. Far better than I can do.
If I were to be critical, I'd say have more separation between the specular and diffuse reflections. The light coloured diffuse reflections should be soft and have a gradual transition, the specular reflections should have a sudden rise in intensity. So rather than a continuous transition from dark to light, there should be a soft transition for the diffuse and a sharp transition for the specular.
The sharp specular reflection is what makes a metal look shiny and polished. What you have looks more like a dull metal because the specular isn't distinct from the diffuse.
But yeah, it looks great as it, good work.

A million years later. I have finally taken the time to sit down and try my hand at my chaplain's nmm gold again, this time on the aquila. Im very proud of it, I feel like I improved already from my first attempt. Something still feel a bit off if im being very critical though... like its not on par with prize winning paint jobs i feel like. Maybe my gradient is not clean enough? Im not sure how to improve.

To be honest, I thought you used gold paint when I first looked at it. I think you did a pretty good job.

I think it looks great, but if I had a criticism, it would be that the gradient only goes once from dark to light. Quite often when you see nmm, there are multiple transitions from dark to light and back again across a section that's supposed to look metallic. That's a very minor criticism, though - I certainly haven't got the skills to do nmm, yet!
Great work, anyway!
