Subject: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes - Final Trailer
The next entry in the Planet of the Apes saga will start filming soon — and it has yet another very long name. Today, 20th Century Studios unveiled the first real details on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which picks up the story years after 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes for what’s described as “an all-new chapter.” Production on the film is scheduled to start next month, with Wes Ball, best-known for the Maze Runner trilogy, serving as director.
We don’t know much else about the movie, and it’s hard to glean a lot from the initial concept art (see above). But the studio did reveal some of the cast, including Owen Teague (Black Mirror and the newer It films), Freya Allen (The Witcher), and Peter Macon (The Orville). The screenplay comes courtesy a team that includes Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), and Patrick Aison (Prey).

That comes as a surprise to me. I still need to see War for the Planet of the Apes. The image looks cool but with a screenplay with those names attached this show coukd go anywhere.
Okay, I'm actually pretty pumped for this one. I thoroughly enjoyed the other three movies, as well as the classic PotA movies from the '70s. I'll be very interested to see where they go with it.

If this movie isn't the new incarnations version of the original it's quickly building towards it. Nova was a little girl in War. Ceasars kid should be grown up or growing up. We just need that rocket from the news in the first one to come back to earth.

I have enjoyed the previous films - some were a bit long but overall good.

The previous films in the current series were Rise of, Dawn of and War for the Planet of the Apes, so each film so far has had a seven-word title...

I really dug the reboot trilogy they just finished, so I will definitely check this out. Not sure how good it will be with a different director at the helm, but they've built enough goodwill from those last 3 films for me to buy a ticket for opening night.

This series has progressively gotten better with each entry. Not just looking. Story, plot, character, themes. I can't think of any other thing thats managed to do that.
Looking forward to it.

Looks good. Looks like... maybe the next movie will be the original Planet of the Apes? Apes are standing and talking now. Wearing outfits. Id say it's about time for that spaceship to come back to Earth.

I would love to see that Easter egg in Rise finally pay off...

I’m curious as to whether they’ll go with the original film idea of humans having regressed to animals, or whether they’ll go with the Tim Burton idea that they’re just marginalised and suppressed?

They already had them turning mute. You can see the state of humanity in the trailer. If the astronaut comes back from his Mars mission to what we see in the trailer its a perfect recipe for the original movie.

Watched this last night. I'd give it a 6/10. Definitely not as good as the first 3, but not bad. It was just kinda... Eh. They had some cool ideas for this one but didn't do anything particularly interesting with them.
Spoiler:
I thought it was really odd how long Mae went without talking to Noah or Raka, especially after they fed and clothed her. I was also expecting there to be some specific reason Mae was following Noah around but nope, apparently it was all just because she was hungry. It's a lush environment ripe for foraging, but apparently the best course of action was to follow this ape that she'd already antagonized stealing his blanket. Weird move.
I eye rolled hard at how quickly the 3 of them became besties. Looked like they were together for a day or 2 and Noah is already good to come to Mae's rescue despite being stupidly outnumbered, and Raka's death is clearly meant to be some emotional gut punch but we hardly knew him and the characters had just met the guy. Another weird move.
The villain was OK. I really liked the idea of Caesar's legacy being misremembered. It was neat to see how far things had regressed since his death. Felt like they could have done something more interesting with that than breaking into an old bunker to steal some guns.
I think the biggest problem with the movie was that they needed to decide if they were gonna tell Noah's story or Mae's. By trying to do both they kinda don't do either one satisfactorily. I never had a good idea of what Mae actually wanted until the very end of the movie, which made it hard to invest in the character.
The trailers made me think this was going to be a 'hunt humans for sport to throw them into the gladiator pit, a sympathetic ape gets them out' and I think that would have been a better story to tell personally.
Oh well.

Watched it with my wife and kids. My kids enjoyed it. I thought it was fine. Wasn't quite up to the original trilogy but that's a hard sell as I think those mostly knock it out of the park.
I didn't mind the story or direction. My biggest issue is that it felt very much like a set up and not really a movie on it's own.
Also the "several generations" is such a weird time frame. I realize it's to be able to hand wave away timing issues but the various timing issues are pretty significant for a pendantic turd like me The knowledge drop off seams to significant for a shorter time frame but books surviving in that environment would only be possible on the shorter time frame, etc.

I haven't seen it yet so this comes with no knowledge of how it's framed in the movie, but knowledge drop off can be significant in a very short time frame.
You only need 1 generation raised without achool or education to have kids who also don't get school or education and thats the end of it.
Yeah those older people might talk about reading and writing and books but it all just becomes stories from whichever old people are even still alive.
Remember the plague killed a LOT of people and muted most of the rest. Most knowledge goes with it within 40-60 years.
