First, I thought there was a Space Station Zero thread already, but either I was hallucinating (which is well within the realms of reality for me, as I have been teetering on the precipice of sanity for a long while now), or it was another forum I frequent. Anyways, I got the book a while back and looking over the rules and lore; I'm very impressed; it's inspired me to work on my minis and terrain more than any other Skirmish game before.

The whole concept is excellent, usually cross over fiction doesn't appeal to me, but I'm tempted to write a fanfic spinoff of Attelus and a few of his people being on the station; it'd be interesting to see him and his people interacting with people from, say, Mass Effect or Star Wars or even Star Trek while, I dunno, fighting off Klingons or Zerg in the slums perhaps based off the campaign I'm going to play with him and his crew.

Another thing that appeals to me is how much potential for expanding the game/system. Perhaps a more nuanced crew-building set of rules or a story expansion where Tyranids or something else arrives and invades the station from the outside. I hope Vince and Adam work to expand on the game more in the future. In what ways do you think they could expand on the lore/mechanics?

I have yet to play the game as I'm waiting for the d12s I ordered off eBay to arrive (they won't arrive until the end of the month, which I don't mind as it allows me to work on my minis and terrain beforehand) the d12 is an interesting choice, and the odds and evens thing is an even more interesting choice. Has anyone played it yet as a Skirmish game or a dungeon crawler? Also, what types of crews have you played as? Post a picture of your crew if you want to. Here's mine they're a War crew (tempted to change them to a Pirate crew, though due to the equipment boost allowing for more WYSIWYG)

From left to right, it's Azakir Halgriv (veteran soldier), Rhia Venris (Engineer), Attelus Kaltos (commander), Karmen Kons (medic), and Marcel Torris (soldier)

Also, what's in the depths of the Space Station? My theory is it's an Eldritch abomination imprisoned in it. That's been using its power to pull ships from their dimensions to lure them in so they'll accidentally free it. But I'm a Lovecraft fan so I'm going to be biased lol

I bought the rules. I'm hoping to run a game of it next month and finally get some use out of the Vault terrain I recently got from a friend.

Vault terrain? I'm heavily investing in terrain lately as I want to one day start a wargaming club in my town, so what's that stuff like?

What I have is the A.R.K. system from Black site.
https://blacksitestudio.com/collections/the-a-r-k
Normally, well out of my price range, but I picked up the entire range (mostly already built) and the compatible, now-OOP metro subway set when I bought out a friend who was getting out of the hobby. It is extraordinary pre-painted terrain -sturdy, well designed, modular, good looking- but quite pricey and it does seem to go in and out of stock at odd times.

I've been itching to get it to the table and I think Space Station Zero might be the way to do it.

For a wargaming club, something mroe affordable, smaller and more modular (perhaps similar to necromunda terrain) might be a better choice, but if you've got the scratch, it is darned impressive.

Hooo, wow you weren't exaggerating when you said it was expensive especially if I try to buy it here in New Zealand and it's damned, damned nice. Might work well with Kill Team 2: Electric Boogaloo Into the Dark too!

I have a crap ton of Mantic Sci Fi terrain I was given from a friend too and that's pretty good.

I also found this which was promoted on a 40k YouTube channel and it looks like a cheap version of Necromunda terrain and such I'd like to buy one day.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. I would never spend that kind of scratch myself, but now that I have it, I feel almost obligated to find a way to use it.

Mantic terrain would be a fantastic choice for starship corridors. Virtually no wasted space with those thin walls and the look is perfect for starship interiors. If you have that already, I'd give it a go. Used some of it myself recently greebling up a toy starship.

https://www.chicagoskirmishwargames.com/blog/2022/07/paw-patrol-spacecraft-part-2-completed/

As for Necromunda-style corridor terrain, there's a bunch of companies making it in the same style and dimensions as GW but in different materials at different price points. The set you linked to has a very nice look. If you don't mind the look of layerd MDF, there's some companies making good looking and affordable kits that will provide you ALOT of sturdy (an important consideration for club use) terrain for a good price.

I've bought some products from these guys and always been happy with the price and quality.

Their big set is about half the one you linked too, but I'm not sure what shipping would be for you. That's probably middle of the road price for MDF versions. I think there are others doing the same thing.

That looks great, mate. What did you use for the computer screens, was it the Warp Strider terrain? Just looking at that Warp Strider terrain and that looks good too. Yeah, shipping out here is expensive as frig, I'd buy GW stuff over eBay or Amazon but due to shipping it's almost as expensive as buying 1st hand from GW here (Being an Eldar player I have to buy a five mini box of Howling Banshees for $105.00) I'm glad games like Space Station Zero has made me look more at games and minis outside of GW now.

The screens are all part of the Mantic Starship terrain set. You can see more details about how I used the pieces for the bridge in the link above.

Just finally took the plunge and played my 1st two scenarios of Space Station Zero today. Challenges 1 and 3, it was fun. The 1st was a little disappointing as I rolled collapsing floor and poison gas as I was hoping for some combat. Almost all of my squad fell through the floor except for Torris. The 2nd game was much more fun as we had some combat against starving mutants which I used Mantic zombies for. Attelus Kaltos was MVP for that game as he didn't just slaughter three of the six mutants single-handed, but also managed to pass three out of five intelligence challenge dice (needing 8+ on 12-sided dice) to disarm the generator from overloading. Here are some pics.

Nice and simple, even though I still managed to frig the rules up here and there lol, but I think I've got the rules down well enough, now, and is quite positive in my eyes. Although, I was a bit confused about whether the disarming of the generator is a Challenge or an Extended Challenge as it's not explicitly stated in the scenario, but on re-read it most certainly is. Rounds are quick and the enemy AI is easy enough to understand. Haven't used any cover rules, though, as the only enemies I've fought are melee based. Won't be playing a game for a while, though as I need more minis yet to arrive.

I'll be interested how you feel about the game when you play it too!

I just completed challenge four today for Space Station Zero and had quite a lot of fun. In it, there's a gas leak, so you have to get to a vent to turn it on to get the gas out, I also have some drones, which I used Necron Scarabs I bought off eBay as.

I had Attelus sprint forward to activate the vent as he's got fly and a movement of six. This made him draw the attention of the drones, which I designed him for as a "dodge tank." He performed very well as they came after him but couldn't hurt him; he even damaged one back with the CQC rules. As Torris Adelana and Karmen supported him with their guns. It allowed me to test out the cover rules as the scarabs were in cover quite a lot, and it seemed simple and easy to use. Was fun. None of my characters took any damage, even from the leak. I took the Edge "Natural Brutes", and I'm glad I did as it's helped a lot. I qualify it as them wearing protective gear (or, for Attelus, his enhancement and wraithbone skeleton) And being very experienced Throne Agents. I'm playing 25 by 25 instead of 22 by 30, so I've had to adapt a bit.

It went well, indeed! The panels are Zone Mortalis Necromunda plates. I got them because they resemble the inside of a space station instead of my 22x30 Kill Team matts which are dirt and debris.

Played two new scenarios today; unlike the last one, they were both hard-won. The first was down a corridor with lasers and four robots laying down shots the whole time. Took a lot of damage but managed to get through it with no casualties (only just). During the 2nd game, I had to disarm an overloading reactor which would blow at the end of the fifth turn while under attack by mutants and turrets and on a damaged floor. Again a lot of damage was taken, and Adelana, my Engineer, fell through the floor on the 2nd turn taking her out of the game, which was annoying as she is one of the best to try to fix it. But Attelus managed to be the MVP with a Critical success which almost fixed it completely on the third turn.

I didn't take photos this time because of laziness lol

I played another Space Station Zero game, Challenge 13, which I should've seen as foreshadowing for how frustrating and boring the scenario turned out to be and how bad my luck was during it. I was going to make another battle report, but nahh, lol. Vince Venturella, if you're somehow reading this, you're a frigging evil genius or something lol. I couldn't think how crazy hard the scenario would've been for crews not wielding advanced weaponry (the drones had an armour of 8 which means any even rolls 6 or under are negated, and they also have a shield which reduces a hit to 0 each time its attacked) So the game was pretty much the epitome of a pillow fight, for the enemy lol.

Attelus got taken out by a very lucky critical hit by one of the drones, which he rolled a critical failure to protect himself from, so he took like 12 damage which was twice his full wounds lol. Luckily I rolled a 12 on the death roll, meaning he came out unscathed; he just didn't gain any exp from the scenario. Darrance was MVP as his energy melee weapon completely negated the drones' armour. I'm just glad I got some good loot, and Attelus didn't die.

Here are some pics, I suppose.

Managed by the skin of my teeth to get through another two Challenges today. Challenges 14 and 15, and boy, the latter was a doozy that had to fight a landed starship of sorts. They lost both Darrance and Karmen in the scenario (luckily, they didn't die, but Karmen cannot participate in the following Challenge). The game's gotten much harder over the past few Challenges. Challenge 14 I played the place that had a poison gas that made the characters go mad and attack their friends if they failed a body check which your characters need to pass three of; luckily, my crew have the Natural Brutes Edge, so they gained two more dice for body checks, or else they'd have to pass with three even numbers on 4d12s which isn't good odds. I think many a crew would've been lost as insane wretches due to some poor rolls then and there lol. The game's harsh.

I then just tried another game, and that was in a trash compactor, and at the beginning of the 3rd turn, the walls, of course, began to move in, making the enemies retreat. There was a combined intelligence test to stop it, but of course, my intelligence character (Karmen) was recovering from the last game. If I didn't stop it by the end of the 4th turn, everyone would be out of action and, of course, I fail only needing two passes to succeed. But everyone but Darrance managed to survive. So, I lost my first character, but Attelus managed to roll a 24 on his test, so all his stats went up up one (he's a Perpetual anyway, so him getting that roll makes the most sense lol)
