Superlative work, or should I say "Snazzy work," everyone. I see myself giving out a lot of votes.

Mr. Nobody: The red skull/ribcage is a distinctive choice. The checks on the leg a a subtle detail.

Jadenim: I like the crisp white armor against the naturalistic greens and browns of the skin. Are the red markings on the shouldpads freehand or transfers?

Lovejoy: Stripes, stripes, and more stripes! I really like the stippling on the coat, as well.

Daia T'Nara: Dakka SuperZoom does a great disservice to your paintjobs here. I looked at them on my phone, and boy oh boy do these models pop! I'd love to see these in person.

theCrowe: It's interesting to see how two painters approach the same model. The stripes on the Cat's pants a nicely executed, and I like the different whites on the piRate captain.

Nevelon: Another great UM. I like your use of drab colors-- it's sells the age and experience of the model.

more comments later, as I find time.

Now showing various models from the previously adandoned projects!

Painting total as of 3429/2024: 56 plus a Deva King statue
Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

Thanks! I have the same experience when I take the photos, I don't use a magnifier or anything while I'm painting so they look nice and sharp, and then on my laptop I see all the wonky lines and fuzzy edges...

Mr Nobody: I love the red mask and chest, and the vivid lapels - normally I find Death Jesters either don't fit in with their Harlequin brethren, or do but lose their death-look, this guy really does a great job at walking that fine line and capturing both moods.
Jadenim: Great contrast between the textured look of his hide and the clean white armour, both types of finish painted really well.
Lovejoy: Super fine work on the stripes on their clothes, and the tinge of rust and pitting on the metal of their weapons adds a lot of interest to them.
Daia T'Nara: Perfectly normal space marine with a shield and you had to go and weird it up, didn't you?
theCrowe: Great fine detail on the clothes, but it's the fur colours that really stand out to me.
Nevelon: Classic design, and I like the contrast between the rich blue of his armour and the browns of the belt/holster and tabard.
JoshInJapan: A great grounded take on 'snazzy', so much fancy detail but nothing outlandish - I love the tiger on the boss's seat especially.
inmygravenimage: Wonderful contrast between the crumbly/dusty terrain surfaces and the bright costumes and fire/explosions.
KidCthulhu: I love the colour choices, subdued giving him a sense of mystery, but with bright spots like the blade and the purity seal giving the whole mini vibrancy.
Geifer: Dude loves his cloak - besides the excellent white on his uniform, the pale grey hair is really convincing.
SirOllox: So cute! I like the highlighting on her hair and spysuit, colourful without being garish.
Vejut: Great top-down colour shading, it's a little thing but it gives the tank a real sense of bulk.
Pariah Press: I'm trying real hard to focus on the Magus and not the super fun limo, but it's not easy. I just recently painted one of these myself so I'm familiar with the mini and that helps appreciate the fine work on the costume.
Llamahead: Very vibrant, I like the contrast of the dark blue collar especially.
Maharg: Terrific shading on her skin, and the midnight blue highlighing on the outfit really pops.
Midget Gems: I love some bright and brutal Orks, the back 'banner' glyphs really stand out.
CancelledApocalypse: I love how dark the shades in the reds get, the back banners particularly, and the stripe in his hair adds so much for such a small detail.

Thanks guys; I wanted to have a super high tech feel to the armour, to really emphasise that the Zoat aren’t animals, so I’m glad that’s coming across

The stripes are a couple of Tau transfers.

Great job, everyone! I couldn't help myself and ended up giving everyone a vote for their snazzy work. My absolute faves were Lovejoy, Vejut and Maharg, but everyone entered something cool!

Thank you for the compliments. I'm glad others liked my choice of colours. My inspiration of a blooming flower combined with a flayed body. A harlequin should be beautifully macbre.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Thanks! Every model in this set is based on existing historical armors, so whoever designed the original suits did most of the design work for me.

That's what I end up doing pretty much every month.

Eww.

More comments for everyone!

inmygravenimage: I like how worn you made all the background. It adds a lot of visual interest without overshadowing the superfight in the middle. Also, great flame effects!

KidCthulhu: I like this dark blue and purple palette you have chosen. It kind of tones down the ostentation of the model.

Geifer: You have achieved a very nice white. I like the dust on the hem of the cloak.

SirOllox: What a fun model! Your purple highlights on black are a nice, cartoony touch.

Vejut: Wow, you really packed a lot of fine detail into a teeny-tiny model.

Pariah Press: I like your use of classic blue and purple against the red dress. You achieved a really nice skin tone, as well.

Llamahead: This guy is a lot more colorful than most of the models you share on your P&M blog. It's like he doesn't care who sees him coming!

Maharg: I like the shiny black you achieved, but I'm even more impressed with the subtle-yet-visible abs on this model.

Midget Gems: I do love me some Orks. I really like the deep shadows on their faces. It makes their expressions so easy to read.

CancelledApocalypse: I love the repeated "sunburst" on the flag and the loincloth. Was that freehand? Also, great non-human skintone.

Another month of fantastic work by everyone. Let's all keep pushing ourselves!

There's some excellent stuff this month! I was expecting just a load of gold trimming and bling, but there's all sorts of cool things going on; great variety and quality!

I really like:
TheCrowe's minis - firstly, because they're Burrows & Badgers, so I'm biased, and secondly, I just love the rat's coat! Excellent work.

Vejut's Salamander Spartan - I'm a total sucker for tiny tanks, and this one looks fantastic!

CancelledApocalypse's Eldar Corsair Prince - great work, I really like this one, despite the fact that it's an evil space pixie... (I can't forgive the Eldar for those Toughness 8 Wraithlords back in 3rd! )

Pretty much everything looks really good this month, but those three were my stand out ones.

Thanks! Yeah, it's freehand. I wanted to update the Black Suns logo from the 1980s. I actually prefer the more minimalist version I came up with on the right banner pole (the mini's right) to the version repeated on the banner and loin cloth - though I do like that that design is more extensive and fills the banner. I think I'll go for the more minimalist logo for the rest of my corsair troops and keep the extensive version just as a motif for the prince.

With regards to the skin tone, I would normally do a pretty standard pale-flesh skin tone for my eldar, but I really liked the greyish skin tone Apologist used on his original kitbash (that this is a blatant copy and slight modification of) and felt it worked well for a being that would spend the vast majority of his time on the bridge of his starship away from natural sunlight, while at the same time heightening the alien feel.

Thanks Lovejoy, I loved your pirates, too! Bring back the toughness 8 wraithlords, I say!

Thanks Daia, those Slaaneshi marines are definitely on brand. Nice of them to give that young lady a free whistle stop tour of the galaxy's fiercest battlefields...

Thanks everyone for the votes and the mentions. Always a pleasure painting the Burrows and Badgers range, and always a bonus when I have an incentive to do my best and make a bit more of an effort on them. I’ve another box under the tree so they’ll no doubt make another monthly painting challenge appearance in 2023. Obviously my take on the pi-rat was a bit different but Mr Lovejoy’s skills with a brush are on par with his skills at sculpting and the votes speak for themselves. I doff my hat to you, sir.

Also great to see some historicals and smaller and larger scale minis in the mix this month. I’m all for more variety in the hobby.

Thank you very much, guys!

I was initially disappointed by the end result of the model, especially after looking at the model for months and trying to figure out how to make him match his retinue. I had forgotten how weird the old RT sculpts were, which makes them very difficult to paint well. Your kind words (and the votes from everyone else) has really raised my spirits.
I am no longer ashamed of my Ordo Malleus relic.

Voting should have closed after 5 days as usual, but I obviously forgot to officially call it.

In a bit of a rush right now, so will do it formally later today.

Ah, thought that might be the case. There's no rush, though, I know everyone's busy/are getting up to speed after Christmas and New Year. Take your time!

Yay! First ever (joint) win! I'd like to thank my parents, the academy, my pet zergling Steve... and everyone who voted!

Especially you, Geoff.

Great work from everyone, such a tough month to single out the best minis, hence why you all got a vote from me.

Hey, that’s nice. Joining the podium party for the first time! Maybe it helps that a third of the entries are up there and there’s something to be said for having painted one of the same mini’s as one of the winners.

Anyway, congratulations to all. Lots of great entries for this very snazzy month. Especially pleased to see a 6mm tank in the mix, and joint 3rd place! Great stuff.
