Making a little patch is fiddly enough, but all you have to do is find a small enough rod and cut thin enough pieces.
That's already more challenging that it sounds because despite the size they look off if you make them too thick and at least for, I can't cut straight to save my life.
It' s impossible, best I can do is cut enough pieces to pick out the ones that passable

Attaching individual coins is an exercise in frustration. On some slightly bigger ones I have been able to drill a hole and pull through a "rope", but I really prefer the smaller ones.
Getting those drilled though?...uh no, not happening. Best I could do is cut in a wedge and try to hide the top part, that can look passable. Still suuuuuper fiddly though and easy to mess up.
And still doesn't really work if they are hanging on a rope mid air..

Anybody got experience with these or have and ideas how to get these right more consistently?
The obvious answer would be to print 3d chains with coins attached. Alas, I do not own a printer and it's not really an option at the moment.

Is the chain moulded onto the model? If so I would recommend sculpting the coins onto the model, boring a small hole at the top then sculpting a small loop to represent the ring holding it on. It sounds tricky but it's actually not too hard. I followed a tutorial by valbjorn of putting teeth on space wolf models, but the technique would be essentially the same.

Definitively still fiddly business and nowhere near valborn levels, but ok..yes...this is worth exploring further for static coins.
For those hanging on chains...uuh..tougher. but then...at least they won't bounce all over the place. On the plus side, I suppose I wouldn't need the connecting rope/ring.
I'd have to figure out a way to do more then one at a time though.

On my SoH, I have been gluing a length of chain around the waist and then tucking the coin under a link so that you can't see the top to know that I haven't actually linked it on. Cheating a bit I know, but there we are. You could cut one chain link in half with your clippers, and then glue it onto a coin that is already in position. My tweezer skills aren't delicate enough to do this, though. I'd end up gluing the link to the tweezer.

I'm talking about free hanging chains. So something like this:


Or simple ropes.
No way I'm taking a clipper to that once it's set and I can't clip it in advance.
I have tried cutting triangles into the coins, and on bigger coins it...somewhat works?
Smaller ones on the other hand are just way too fiddly for that.

I cut too much and ruin it, it goes flying across the room, etc.just making thin enough small coins is not easy. (and straight).
Drilling it is too hard and doesn't really work with chains, though I managed to do it with a string.
And a string of coins can be positioned any way you want, it's great, but woo boy that's nerve-wracking.
Put the slightest bit too much force and you rip off the coin, and you'll probably not even notice.
( and yes I've glued coins to tweezers as well )

Trying this with greenstuff should be less....volatile?
