Hi!

I'm getting back into the hobby... again... we seem to have an on-and-off relationship. Anyway...

Back in 6th edition, when I set up my Blood Angels successor chapter Angels of Mercy, I went all-in on the Assault Squads are a Troop choice. Basically, my army is a few HQs with Jump Packs, Veterans/Honor Guard with Jump Packs, Assault Marines with Jump Packs and a Stormraven. You get the picture. (Ok and a few Terminators and Dreadnaughts and Devastators)

I'm a bit lost on how to fit that into a Battleforged army list. Is that even possible in this edition? I'll play my first 9th edition game next month and we'll probably do a 1000pts Matched Play mission which I'm really looking forward to. I really like the idea of objectives and holding objective markers etc. (I know this existed before but it seems it's much more refined now).

I used to field an army like that:
1-2 HQ (with Jump Packs)
1-2 Elite (Honor Guard with Jump Packs or Terminators or Dreadnaughts)
2-3 Troop (Assault Marines with Jump Packs)
Maybe a stormraven or devastators

Now I think I could barely muster a patrol detachment (1 HQ, 1 Troop if I assemble the tactical marines I was gifted some years ago), but I couldnt do a Battalion or Brigade. I could of course field one Outrider Detachment (3-6 Fast Attack) and one Vanguard (3-6 Elite) but this does not look like a viable list as it forgoes so many CP.

Is there a special trick to get Assault Marines as Troop choices? That would make my life so much easier!

Arks of omen detachment is current detachment. You can put fast attack as requirement for minimums giving you 3-6 fast attack choices.

Patrols, battalions etc are now not used in latest battle pack. Well patrol is used for allies but that's very bad for marines generally as you will be losing free bonus rules.

Even if you are not using the new AoO detachment, there are other options.

The Outrider? Detachment is HQ and FA pics, and in the core rules. Might cost you some command points, but lets you go without troops.

Ah thank you, I will look into AoO, it seems I came back into the game at exactly the right time!

I might buy it together with the friend I play with. I'll take the marines (he's not interested in dark angels), he'll take the other factions (especially if it's nids).

Just like we did with 2nd edition back in school
