Okay IF YOU WANT TO RUN SOME SESSIONS

You'll need:

-First edition 40k Rogue Trader only (not the Compendium, Co
mpiliation or later stuff, with one exception below)

-A print out of all of the first two posts here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/493584.page

-And this: https://www.scribd.com/document/112035819/Orcs-in-Space

-The game will be set in Helstrom Sector, which I have mapped, and will give a copy of the map to everyone

-HELSTROM SECTOR IS DEFINITELY NON-CANON in a sense, anyway. Canon was very light in first ed. days. The only GW canon stuff I'm adding in other than the Rogue Trader rules are the Necrons from WD 217 & 218, though we can discuss other stuff.

***

I want to run this very old school, and by a campaign system in which the sector will, after a long, hard fight, eventually fall to the Imperium's enemies if the PCs don't act effectively. I'll need some help doing this, because, though I've GMed online RPGs before, I've never done miniatures battles online before, and I can envision this having a few of those as well.

I can run everything if needed, but Helstrom Sector has four subsectors, and I'd be happy to give one each to any ambitious GM who wants in.

I'm really looking forward to this, so lets discuss it, and see who's interested.

C'mon lads! The Emperor calls! Will you defend the Imperium in its hour of need?

Wow.

I can hear the crickets chirp. NOBODY thinks this is a fun idea??

I really thought this would be a blast. A kind of cooperative GMing idea where we all contribute ideas and build the campaign as we go.

With such an intelligent and dedicated bunch of 40K fanatics, how could it be other than a great time?

At a minimum, I'd like to know what the objections are? Why doesn't this warrant more than a stony silence?

Then I'll go home and cry ;-)

ALL RIGHT YOU INGRATES, PREPARE TO FEEL MY WRATH!!!

Well, not so much, but I am curious. A lot of people responded to the post about 1ed Rogue Trader, and some positively. What gives? People like it, but absolutely nobody will play it? Or is it the online factor that's the turn off?

Don't worry, I won't whip this dead horse any further, and nothing more from me if this last one doesn't get a response., but I really would like to know.

Feel free to tell me all about my intelligence and the illegitimate nature of my birth.

It might just be that most people don't scroll down the forum this far - perhaps if you put a link into the active threads that mentioned rogue trader.

It has been a loooong time since I played rogue trader myself but one model each would be kind of like playing necromunda with one player per model. Tricky with long play by post times.

Neat idea. Dakka can be kinda strict on what can be posted where and when, however.

Is there a way to summon the mods to this post, and ask for their mystical, all-knowing wisdom?

I would guess either a question in the nuts and bolts section or a private message to one of the active mods posting there.

Another question, since you've been so kind as to respond. Would it be possible to play directly through Dakka? I'm guessing not, since that would probably require a dedicated thread.

On the surface, I think it would be relatively simple. The players could just "meet" via Dakka at a certain time, for an hour or so, play out the "evening's" critical skirmish, and the GM could then figure out the results from there, distributing treasure, working out how the campaign as a whole was affected by the battle, telling those who had died about the glory of their departure, and that it was time to create a new character, etc.

But dark things can lie beneath the surface. Tricky problems. To name just a few, its going to be difficult if I, as GM, in the midwestern USA happen to be playing with people who are all from Bangladesh, on the opposite side of the planet and effectively twelve hours away. Even without this, some theater of the mind would have to play in, though I think everybody on this forum is mature enough to handle that.

I'd love some suggestions. I find the idea so appealing, I'm just unwilling to let it go.

One thing I will DEFINITELY do is head to the nuts and bolts section now, and send the mods a pointer, directing them to this thread. If all I get is a kick in the teeth, meh, so be it. I've had harder in the physical universe.

But I have to believe that this could be done, and with so many dedicated 40k fanatics on this forum, there have to be the people here who would love to do it, if they thought it could be done.

Again, thanks!

Yellow triangle, top-right of the posts.

Tyranids In Helstrom Sector This is First Edition 40k, of course, and being done purely because I still LOOOOOVE 1ed, and the fact that nothing is out of bounds (well, within the bounds of good taste) so, for me, its primitive space opera at its best.
