Hi all,

Might be a tough question to answer but how thick is your perfect sprue goo? Just made some and tried it but I think it was too thin as it was still see through on the model despite being grey in the pot

It depends on the requirements.
Small details, mid-thickness.
Filling patch gaps, thick.
Filling small or smooth caps, thin.

If it is too thin, 2 thin coats...

Mines kind of honey thick, depending on how thick your honey is i guess lol. When I take the brush out of the pot it hangs and globs on the brush, i have to wipe excess off on the side of the jar.

When i put goo on i usually then get the normal extra thin plastic glue out and blend the goo with a brush of the neat glue. So its typically going on thicker than I really want it and then Im thinning it, shaping it and blending it with more extra thin cement on the actual model. I find the straight extra thin has a sort of self levelling effect so it helps get a nice smooth finish if i spread a very thin coat of that a little out over the surface to either side of the goo as well as over it .

I make mine up as and when I need it. I dip a bit of sprue in liquid poly and then scrape off the melty stuff with a craft knife. It takes a few seconds and you get stuff the consistency of warm toffee which sets quickly with minimal shrinkage.

Had to describe but I think thinner is better than thicker. If you can see it making a skin that’s to thick. It should be moving around the applicator freely. Start thin and full a gap! You can always add more sprue

What do you use and an applicator?
