Since GW made all the new 40k rules available online for free I thought it would be fun to review the 10th edition rules. Which also means test game of course. You can find my review and test game battle report of Warhammer 40,000 (10th edition) here:

I'm sure I made many rules mistakes in there, but I did try. Hope you enjoy the article!

My buggy and Wartrakk's have been sitting it out since 10th started. Good to see old orks still rocking across the table

BTW Legends for orks came out huzzah! Got my wartrakks back.

Let me know if you want to do another narrative campaign via these forums. Since we both have orks and Astra Militarum so that could be fun

My God, those are some beautiful 2nd edition era armies! So nice to see old metals painted up so well and playing on cool terrain too

Wowsers, great to see those classic armies, even better to see them painted to such an incredible standard.

Table looked great too.

I tell you what, from my very, very limited experience - Warbosses seem to be absolutely ferocious on their own (far more so than the ladz they bring with them, anyway!)

Great report, a lot of fun to read!

@DeadliestIdiot: Thank you! I'm aware that video is the preferred medium of many people today. Not by me, but it makes me appreciate people who sit down and read these (admittedly long) articles.

@Dekskull: Yeah, the legends list just came out after I wrote the army lists for the battle report, so I used the buggy as a Kustom Boosta Blasta, which seemed to be the closest thing at the time.

@Illumini: Thanks very much! With the IG several later figures snuck in of course, but I'm very much a 2nd edition guy. The funny thing is that by now, old people like me have a fondness for the old Orks especially, while people who never grew up with Orks looking like that are rather put off, because it doesn't fit their idea of a 40k Ork. Whereas to me it is the ONLY idea of a 40k Ork. But I talked about it with another afficinado of old Orks, and he wisely said that he only really fields his new Orks army when playing with his group, because using the old Orks takes the fun out of the game for his pals. Which to us may sound insane, but I think I get it to an extent.

@Gordy2000: Thank you! It was really nice to get out the old collections, go through them, see what I have to do up a little again to get two 1000pts lists. With the Orks (all done between 2006 and 2008) I knew they were pretty much perfectly fine as they are (Warboss on Super Cyboar needed some chips repaired, the other boar boyz needed some bits done as well. Some noses on the Gretchin needed fixin too'). They just had to get their bases done a bit different, so they'd fit the table and the IG a bit better. Originally they were very dark red and slightly martian, so I had to change the colouring a bit and added static grass. Good enough.

The Imperial Guard on the other hand required some more work. In 2009/10 I redid several units for an IG project which was meant to showcase the diverse nature of the IG (which to me always was the most interesting aspect about them). So in that run I redid the Ogryns, Ratling Snipers, the regimental advisors when they came out, because they're great figures, beastmen, and so on.

I even painted a 6th Ogryn now, since in 10th they only come in packs of 3. So the eternal fact of the 5-men Ogryn squad is no more.

Around the time (2009/10 GW was so good as to release the last catachan units as well; the command squad), which I made some officers and other fun stuffs from.

I also finally settled on a colour scheme to repaint my tanks in (for which I basically turned to my first IG colour scheme and reinterpreted it a little). You can see the results of all of that and some musings in this post here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/3960/324139.page#11571900. If you're interested in oldey stuff, go to the most recent posts in the thread as well; I'm painting a late 2nd edition/early 3rd edition Ultramarines army right now for a gentleman in the US.

I also own a Sister of Battle army which I had a lot of fun with during 3rd edition due to the AMAZING Codes Witch Hunters of the time. They need some re-doing as well, because - as much as I love my IG armies - I think they're just more fun to play. But the SoB need bases done (many of them are still sitting on goblin green bases), many need a bit of a repaint or paint to begin with, and they need their vehicles finished. Still very happy I got a second Excorcist before they went OOP, but it needs paint! The new SoB range is pretty darned cool. I painted a bunch of them, including the insane Triumph of St.Katherine kit. Only shame is that they are so bloody huge compared to my collection.

@YeeeMako: Looks like it! And really hard to kill as well. You got a very nice looking avatar there, if I may say so.
