Subject: Necromunda - Escher - how do you choose what to build?

The thread title basically sums it up. How the heck do you make choices for how to build things? A few models are easy as they have limited build options, but most of the core models have an insane number of weapon and modelled equipment choices open to them. So how do you make choices, how do you build a generic core of gang members to use in games?
I know one approach is just to build on the fly as you run a campaign, but this seems like very high pressure to have to build models and build new ones and such each week (at least for my level of output).
Magnets are another option, but honestly for regular 28mm infantry models I consider magnets too small and too fiddly to be viable as an approach for this.
So how do you build yourself a generic working core of models to play with? To drop into games or start a campaign or anything?

Here is a suggestion:

Just don´t build an Imperial Guard rifle squad with your Eschers.

A quick gander on Goonhammer wouldn't hurt either.

My photos didn´t mean to buy vintage minis but should rather serve as an inspiration what to include in terms of loadouts. In essence the Escher field a mixed variety of weaponry. Have a heavy gunner in the backfield pounding away at the opposition with the help of a few shotguns, autoguns and lasguns. The rest closes in with pistols and melee weapons. Leader can either lead from behind (there is a perk which helps you to gain an extra action with other gangers) or get stuck with the enemy to rack up XP.

You'll probably have a better time if you don't worry too much about min-maxing your loadouts.
Anyway, I've got 2 boxes of Escher plus the expansion box, so I just built up a bunch of ones that I liked the look of and pick and choose which ones to use in any particular game/campaign.
Plus I've still got around 20 OG Escher from the 1st version.

For me its less about min-maxing a force and more about ensuring that I end up with functional choices to pull from without either wasting choices or ending up buying 1001 boxes to have enough combo choices.

I make a starting list that focuses on the unique weapons that the gang has to offer. Once I'm satisfied that the list is solid for the gang, I build models for each character.
As the campaign goes on, more models can be built as I create new characters and old models can be swapped out (or back in) as weapon loads change. I also don't chase weapons that don't fit my gang's theme such as trying to give all my Goliaths plasma weapons. I've only used about 14 different models for my Goliaths because I don't need to model each and every possible loadout.
