Hi everyone,

Just got back into the hobby a couple of months ago. Picked up some of the new Death Company, and wanted to a pair them with 5 I already had that I purchased a number of years ago, but noticed the base sizes are now different. My OCD can't deal with both sizes in the same unit, so I'm looking into rebasing the smaller based models.

Does anyone have any tips regarding the safest/best way to do this? I've seen some footage online talking about cutting away the base lip and then just sticking the flat part on top of the new base, but would it be easier to simply apply pressure until the feet give way (that way the minis are more uniform)? The death company minis appear to have very few contact points anyways, and the area where the foot meets the base doesn't seem large.

Anyone done this before?

Thanks again,
prawdeeps

How are your bases decorated? Do you want to ba able to salvage what you have? How hard would it be to blend that to a wider base? How are they glued to the bases?

Another option to consider is base extender rings.

Also, Welcome to Dakka.

If you haven't applied any scenic materials nor paint to your bases yet, cutting the contact points off from the base with a sharp modelling knife/scalpel might be easier than a fullblown "snip the edges off with nippers and glue onto a new large base" op indeed. Give it a try!

Thanks for the replies everyone, you're all super welcoming!

The models have only been assembled, no work has been done to them aside from that. The feet are glued to the smaller bases with Tamiya modelling cement. Everything is plastic. There is nothing I need to salvage, I just want to avoid damaging the models.

My guess is that I should be able to cut them off in the method @tauist mentioned. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to make a stupid mistake with that approach, and there wasn't an obvious hack to soften the cement etc.

I was surprised that YouTube didn't come back fairly quickly with an example of the option @tauist mentioned.

Cutting them off works, but you can go an easier route if you dont mind spending a bit of money:

Those are from a UK place, but there are tons of companies that started to sell these 'base adapters' when GW changed the base sizes. I just googled "40k space marine base adapters" and loads comes up. Just glue them around your existing base and you're good to go.

Hope you are enjoying the hobby and stick around on Dakka [:

If they are glued on somewhat lightly with superglue you can just break them off cleanly.

If they are on more solidly you can clip the base off from around the feet with clippers and then remove the little remaining flat bits on the soles of their feet.
