I am super excited, because Spider-Man 2 is out today, and my copy is being delivered in the next few hours.
For those not familiar with its predecessors, these are Spidey takes on the Arkham formula. Except you really need to learn your combos and dodges, because Spidey can’t tank damage all that well.
Anyways, I’ll be back once it’s arrived, installed and been played!

I've been lucky enough to have dodged the early spoilers from youtube so I'm looking forward to how they incorporate the symbiote game play wise, loved the first game so I'm sure this'll be a blast.
Tech wise, it’s a wee bit glitchy. There’s an option to adjust game speed, and as I went into a fight, it set itself to 30%. However, that was before the day one patch had installed. And it is easily fixed from the settings.
Game play is as fun as it ever was, with a few new moves I’ve already unlocked, and some new traversals.
Quite impressed overall!

game's absolutely amazing, not the longest but god the storyline is amazing! I gotta say what they did with the storyline is intreasting.
Spoiler:
Making Harry Venom might piss off a few tradtionalists but... IT WORKS, and they actually acheived something Impossiable... I felt SYMPATHY for NORMAN fething OBSORN!
BTW those playing it make sure you don't skip the "the flame" missions. I'm pretty sure that's teasing something for the future

What a ride. What a rush! As BrianDavion said, it’s far from the longest game. But man is it jam packed.
This is part way between a playable comic book and a playable movie. Which frankly, is exactly what I want from a game based on a beloved comic book character. Well. Characters!
The side missions are also pretty flipping fulfilling, and not a fiddly or repetitive as those in the first game. However, I think there are fewer of them. Certainly I’ve been doing them more or less as and when I was in the neighbourhood, and I’ve got most done.
But the important thing? I don’t feel short changed. This is a really well written, well scripted and incredibly competent game.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Now got all the costumes, and all the gadgets fully upgraded.
Though there are much fewer gadgets this time. I’m not sure how I feel about that to be honest. On the one hand? Booo for lack of variety. On the other? If I’m honest, how often did I use all the gadgets in 1 and MM?
They do feel more balanced out with powers though.
Just a few more collectibles/side missions to go and it’s all done.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and the Fast Travel has changed. You need to work for it, by completing side missions in each district.
But, once you’ve opened it, it seems you can choose where you pop up, which is handy, and definitely makes opening it up well rewarded.

The spoiler was all but stated in the first game. They didn't outright say it. But it was pretty obvious given the information that was available.

In fairness the last sentence was the real spoiler I was just being careful

With a wee bit of slo-mo to help on certain side missions? After 23 hours of playing on Super-Wuss-Mode, that’s 100% of missions and side missions, and 84% or so of trophies.

Didn't get a chance to REALLY dig in until yesterday, but quite enjoying it. Not a huge fan of the Superior legs on regular Spidey. They make sense in this world, but they kind of clash with Peter's style.
Overall, not too far along. Cleared the big propeller sequence. I do really love this take on the Spidey status quo. Haven't totally gotten a hang on the combat changes, but now that I've gotten to the suit upgrades I'm starting to feel things click back into place.
I will say I don't LOVE that suits use the same currency as meaningful upgrades. You get plenty but its put me off buying them until I've maxed out other things.
The main story is pretty solid. We have motivations for our villains, and a couple of genuine “no, no way!” type surprises, such as Scorpion and Vulture being completely bumped off.
Kraven is fairly well fleshed out. Whilst not quite the full shilling, I can’t quite put my finger on it. We learn he’s from a long line of hunters, and is seeking One Last Hunt, as he has some kind of late stage cancer. He’s kind of a Dwarf Slayer in approach.
Harry’s story is however phenomenal, and for my money, this is the best we’ve seen Venom portrayed and explained outside of the comics.
There are also some plot hooks seeded here and there for a sequel. First, Doc Ock refuses to divulge Spidey’s identity to Osborn. Harry is then treated with something which seems destined to turn him into Green Goblin. We’re also set for Carnage, and Chameleon.
As I’ve mentioned earlier, this is quite a short game. Whilst playing on the easiest mode, 23 hours may seem like not enough. But…the game is densely packed.
I felt enthused to continue on and on and on, and no point did anything feel terribly repetitive. Well, barring the street crime missions, but those still serve a purpose as combat exercise and XP farming.
Anything main or side mission is well paced, and offers some solid variety on each theme.
The only bit I really struggled with was “Catch The Pigeon”, where you’re chasing drones down whilst flying. However, I set the game to 50% speed and the ones I’d really struggled with became much more fun.
Overall, a really solid game. Nothing too fiddly, and just the right level of challenge and variety to keep you engaged. Even the side missions aren’t too time intensive, making a 100% run rewarding rather than tedious.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also on a purely personal note, was chuffed to find the hotel from my trip to New York, and get a view more or less from my room’s window.
Silly things I know, but pleasing things all the same. As was finding Hook & Ladder 8!

Hit 100% last night. Overall I quite liked it, not overall as well as the first, but I do feel like its better paced on the whole. It never drags like the post virus anarchy section of the last.
I do feel like Norman's reaction at the end is a little off. Prior to that he'd been told that the only option was to kill Harry and begged Spidey to find another way. For a guy who had spent his life searching for answers to impossible questions, suddenly deciding its over and switching to vengence feels a little forced. It also felt odd for Peter to not reveal himself to Norman before the final fight. They'd been building up this trust between them and Peter here is a little too mature to feign Spidey ignorance in that moment.
Overall though I really love this take on things. Telling old stories with the benefits of new characters is quite compelling and this blend of Kraven's Last Hunt and King in Black is pretty inspired. Miles is a great addition to the mix and while I don't feel his conflict with Li works as well as the Peter/Harry dynamic, it pays off well.
Curious to see what comes next. I suspect The Flame will be a DLC pack. It feels like part of this game and not something for another. Likely Miles/Silk with Peter as the "villain" next time with a version of the Goblin as the finale. Definitely looking forward to the next one.
Yeah. What’s here is densely plotted, so the narrative flows very nicely, and it does feel like a very coherent period of time.
I particularly enjoyed certain side missions only becoming available after main story and side story milestones are reached.
I think perhaps a bit more could’ve been put in, such as more Friendly Neighbourhood missions. But I still appreciate there’s no objective padding to be found.

My only gripe in the pacing is I would have preferred if more of the side missions unlocked as you went along rather than getting dumped one "type" all at once. There's a few that do and I found myself wishing some of my favorites were saved for later.
Hit Platinum last night. Not something I usually do, but there's only a little nonsense to get this one and it was an excuse to play just a little bit more.

Norman's reaction was utterly illogical, but at the same time understandable in light of what he's done, Harry's fate kinda... broke him, the guy has always been TBH kinda poor at handling greif, and has shown that where his family is concerned he knows NO limits.

I binge played the first game again (it had been about 3 years since my last run so it was good to refresh myself) and the Miles Morales standalone before jumping into 2. Just finished the story and wow, totally blown away. That was one of the best games I've ever played.
Having the gadgets mapped to face buttons was a huge quality of life improvement. No more pausing with the radial menu to switch between which toy you want to use. Loved the evolution of both their powers, and just the combat in general felt like a natural progression of what we had before. I especially enjoyed the new parry mechanic. I found myself still dodging a lot especially after binging the first 2 titles, but it always felt really satisfying when I pulled it off.
The writing was the crowning achievement for me though. Miles and Peter had excellent chemistry, every character had a really satisfying arc to play through, and a lot of the messages the game puts forth really resonated with me - especially finding balance in your life. There was some great fan service and wonderful little Easter eggs peppered throughout that didn't get in the way of the story they were trying to tell.
Definitely gonna go for the platinum on this. Insomniac did a great job.
