So with the release of the speed boat Dread in Plastic, it becomes obtainable for many more of us

I am thinking about it, and want to hear how you run it and find it.

I am leaning towards the Anvillus config which is also what we get in the first plastic box, with Aiolos missiles that look cool and seem strong. And either the bad ass looking 5+ Rend Autocannons, or the Plasmas. Plasmas seem a little stronger but I am a sucker for rule of cool..

Thoughts?

Plasma is afaik from chatter of the more competitive inclined people the better option overall, for AT duty the humble lascannon support squad basically outperforms everything anyways.

Otoh, as you stated ROC anvilus AC's just look more brutal. As any dreadnought should look.

That said, the anvilus configuration is realistically in the area of doubtfull to not worth it's points.

Personally, the two i have will come with AC and aiolos, but i am thinking about magnetising the model regardless.

All the weapons in the box are strictly mid. Aiolos would be pretty great if it could split fire, but it can't.

But it's one of the very rare platforms whose plasma profile doesn't completely suck, so if you would like some plasma in your army, Deredeo is where you should have it.

Also gonna depend on your Rite of War. I’m still going for a Fury of the Ancients, so am more inclined to keep it all Dreadnought based.

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah there are stronger options for lethality/points, but the Deredeo brings versatility and Dread survivability. With AC or Plasma it brings decent AT vs AV 10-13, decent AP and strong AA. Probably the Lascannon looks the strongest weapon but I'm a sucker for the look of quadruple barrels, flak vierling (German quad 20mm) style.

Lascannon HSS for example is hard to beat points wise I guess but also gets mauled in a turn by any savvy opponent and can't move and shoot if something hid from them. And a vehicle that gets around that problem can be one shotted which the Deredeo can't.

Anyway I am in no way aiming for competitive play, I do friendly , narrative, thematic & rule of cool. But I want to avoid the complete duds. So if the Deredeo is Mid and has strong survivability I guess that's viable for me and something to consider.

Yea it's perfectly fine, I'm looking forward to my two. And then another two when the other loadout drops.

Depends on yer build I guess. The plasma with the anti infantry missles is my go to. Though it has some overlap with a scorpius with a few different trade offs.

The voltkite is probably he only one I'm not too fussed on, just seems to lack a niche that couldn't be covered by other options better.

If you want the lascannons as someone said a heavy weapon squad does the same thing, though you can make a str 11 lascannon with iron warriors for the memes.

All of them do have that anti air interceptor niche.... but well. How often will that come out? Flyers don't feel meta atm. (Thank goodness )

In the "Rule Of Cool" dept, Autocannons, anvilus launcher and flamers look by far the best, so I'm going to run with that, but I also have bought a set of Volkites for it so am now in fact contemplating on magnetizing.. Could also go for maximum Choom

Anyone cracked their box open yet? You reckon things will be easy to magnetize for plastic / resin hybrid weapon swaps?

Probably gonna be building my first one Wednesday evening. Will let folks know my thoughts on how swapable the arm weapons are.

Instructions show them as sub-assemblies complete with ammo hopper and power packs, so I am hopeful it’ll be easy!

Mine won't arrive till Thursday. The Goonhammer review wasn't very favourable: https://www.goonhammer.com/horus-heresy-plastic-deredeo-the-goonhammer-review/

That's disappointing to read, though the torso seems like it should be easy enough with some plastic cement.

As for weapons I'm going with the autocannons, they're definitely the cooler looking option and since I'm building it for an IW force it won't be the worst against vehicles. If/when they release the other loadouts the second deredeo will have lascannons.

Not intending to be rude to Goonhammer, Spesh as mine remains on sprue, but I’ll be interested to compare their experience to my forthcoming.

Certainly I’ve seen the odd kit review where it turns out a problem was user error - and likewise, I’ve struggled to get stuff to line up, only to find I’ve left a pesky bit of flash in a poor position.

I’m not overly fussed about the lack of possibility though. For me, provided the model is stable, and a solid build, I tend to be pretty happy.

Surprised about that review.

Basically they're saying the gun arms are monopose due to the ammo feed/cables and the only pose is them pointing apart, not parallell?

Be interesting to hear what more modellers say, so do share once you have built.

The point in the review that strikes a chord is the reference to the difficulty of lining up components which have tiny rivets on the edges that have to be glued. It's a thing on HH models, for some reason. And they put joins in places where it's hard to fill any gaps.

In that case, it sounds to me like going with a plastic chassis and resin weapons gives the most possibilities for modelling?

Haven't studied the sprues in depth so have no idea how feasible it would be to scratchbuild alternative cabling for some of the plastic weapons (yes, this is a thing in modelling circles, especially in Ma. K)

Planned build night was a bust. I’ve somehow managed to do a weeks worth of work in three days, and so was super tired.

But, it’s counterpart arrived this morning, so will see if I can build both tomorrow.

Follow up - I got my Dorito yesterday in the mail, sat down to build the torso last night after work.

And yeah the upper torso plates are bad. I underestimated it since it seems like there's plenty of points of contact (the entire lower edge, the two halves of the top to each other etc) but it seems like there's something throwing it off. I only managed to get mine lined up well by using plastic welding cement and holding things in place until they set.

I'm definitely going to have to gap fill the centerline where the pieces join together.

For how good the rest of the kit looks it is disappointing.

The upper torso is a focal point for the eye so it's probably the place you least want a visible join line. :/

I've tried to build mine twice over the last 2 weeks - each time I put on my build movie (Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit). Each time I started to read the instructions and would fall asleep. The first week was prepare for close week. The next was close week. I'm working about 45-55 each of those weeks because I'm down a headcount on my team. I'm planning this weekend but it is my FIL's bday, my football team has a home game, and Sunday is our monthly house cleaning day (odds and ends that don't get cleaned or organized weekly - cleaning the showers and tubs, mopping the tile, etc.)

On the torso? Following the comments from others, i diverged from the instructions.

Rather than glue the two halves together, then that to the main torso? I glue the right hand (as you look at the model face on) first, then the other half.

Just need to hold it pressed together for a few seconds, and the join all but disappeared.
